I Rode My Bike Today...

Just Flooping around. 14.5 miles and 1100' from the house. Changed the gearing from 32/17 to 32/18, making it a little easier on the climbs. Debating bringing this to Turn and Burn. :)

Yay!! I got on my bike today for the third time in six weeks. I only rode twice in August. Boo. Did a Whiting-Luge-Whiting run today with Danimal and a friend from work. Great weather, great fun to be back on the bike. Suspension and tire pressure were DIALED and it felt like cheating on The Luge. Bikes are fun! Thanks for the camaraderie Danimal.

I rode my bike today and my bike tried to ride me! Started at 6:45 this morning from Simi Valley and my intention was to hook up with the JRA shop ride. On my descent into Cheeseboro I lost the front end in some sand and ended up high siding. I hit the ground pretty hard on my back and slammed the back of my head into the ground. All I heard was a loud crack. Did a quick assessment and stood up. Rode down to the meet point and part way there realized I had lost my phone. I met Jennifer and the crew and told them I would have to go back and find my phone. They were on their gravel bikes so resumed their intended route. Jennifer and I rode up the canyon in search of my phone and luckily found it. We ended up just riding back and calling it a day. Feel a little sore but thankfully my head is OK.

Just a pic of the crash site. There was a full bush there before I arrived. I am thankful it sacrificed itself for me. Also curious what my impact registered on the Richter scale!

Cathy and I rode our bikes today (yay!) If riding local, that immediately means riding Golden Eagle. We do a short version climbing up the fire road and then descending the lower section of the singletrack. I'm so proud of Cathy! She knocked off 15 minutes on the fire road climb from last time!

Note: The Embed is working for me. Just cut and paste the embed code, stripping away the iframe crap and let xenforo do the rest. It wraps the MEDIA tags around it.... Cheers!:sneaky:

I'm not talking about double posts, but a whole new thread started (inadvertently?) by Robin McG yesterday with the same thread title, including the ellipses... Strange that the programming would do that - and definitely troublesome for Mr. Moderator Guy.

It looks like you merged them - phew. Thank you for taking emergency corrective action. We didn't want to split the herd before we reached our 40th page!

And now, back to riding... and writing, about riding...

I rode out at Aliso this morning. I got a late start, so figured I would just stay local.

Holy heck! Aliso was swamped. Even more so than when herzalot jokes about it on the weekends. The lower parking lot was filled (people were idling in the walkways waiting for people to leave so they could take their spot), and every single trail was packed -- every trail except Lynx. Lynx is usually my go to on crazy busy days like this, as most hikers avoid it, and I've never seen a biker climb it (although I'm sure someone has).

It was getting pretty hot out, and my lower quad was still bugging me from the ride on Saturday (not sure it was cramps, might have been a slight strain), so I just put in a quick 15mi.

Determined not to post in the "didn't ride my bike today cuz" thread, I got out and rode my bike. Due to cracked ribs the doc told me to suck it up, but don't overdue it so I kind of understood that part. Then I had orders from the wife saying " you idiot don't crash cause I'm not coming to get you, not taking you to the hospital and not listening to you complain about haw bad your chest hurts when you get home". My response was to pick your poison cause you know how grumpy I can get just sitting on the couch, so she pointed towards the door and I was gone. I took off with no particular destination and took it easy for the most part and the body felt fine. Turned out to be a good ride that has me deserving of a couple ice cold shocktop's now...

I got out and rode this morning......mixed it up a bit. Still did a pre-dawn start, but this time drove to the trailhead.

Plan for Hugh and I was Harding / UHJ-LHJ / O Neil Park

For once we were not the only lunatics out that early...another rider started about 10 mins ahead of us.

Started out with great intentions. Bright moonlight from the sliver a moon we had...we still brought our lights. Temps were nice, then it just got humid. Finally turned the lights off about mile 8 on Harding. Got to the gate just after sunrise. As we were going around the gate, the first 2 bugs buzzed my ear. WTF??? Started on our way up to Modjeska Peak and it just got worse...the swarms were ridiculous. Got to Modjeska Peak and reassessed what we were gonna do.

Knew the bugs would be worse on the climb just past Joplin all the way to Santiago Peak and down the backside to UHJ. Thought about Joplin, but heard it was getting overgrown. So we turned around and headed back down. Back at the trucks, refilled water and headed over to STT....up to the Luge as an out and back. Warmed up way too quick on STT.

It was weird climbing Harding in the dark, then descending in the daylight.

All in all we got in almost 32 miles / 5600' ascent

Plans for Holy Jim/Trabuco fell through so we went to Santiago Oaks instead with a small group of friends. Started out at the elementary school on Serrano. Played on the drops and jumps at Robbers peak. Will from Rock N Road Cyclery showed us this new (to us) jump. Pic below. We descended Coachwhip to try those berms. Some-one said they were gone. Nope still there and pretty fun too. Up Goat, down Chutes, Fence Line, around the lake and up the two remaining B's (we climbed the 3rd B at the beginning). Didn't keep track of miles. Not many I'm sure but always a blast utilizing the features along the way. Plenty of heat but a chill pace. Not too crowded for holiday.

I've never come down Harding... The few times I've gone up, I've always passed the peak. I'd be open to coming down that way... And then maybe an STT out and back like J did.

It is a fun DH....as fire roads go, and it is 9 miles long, save for the 2 short climbs on the way. And it takes while to come down as well.

We actually thought about going to Old Camp, but it warmed up pretty quick and I had to be home early.

Rode El Moro today. Started riding around 9:20, and it was already getting hot. First trail was Lizards. I like this trail, and will be riding it more.
Then a nice steep climb out to fence line trail and down to Rattle snake. Not many tire tracks on Rattlesnake trail so makes me think it doesn't get ridden a lot. Did have a few friendly hiker on there though. I walk some of this trail, but it's fun all the same. Then headed toward and climbed up "I think I can" trail. Another run down fence line and back. Ride was fun, I felt good, and it was getting HOT! Ran out of water in the last 20' of the ride. :geek:
Off to Firehouse Subs for lunch to call it a great morning!

12.4 mi, 2100 ft and about a million degrees......
Note to self, start earlier when hot.....
