I Rode My Bike Today...

That's not so hard. I did 40/8000 in the month prior to riding SJT. Didn't seem to make much difference.:whistling:

Ohhh, do you mean the same day? Hmmmm, well, since I've never been past 4200' in a ride, I am guessing the only thing I would hit after even 5000' of climbing is the litter of a rescue helicopter. But your point is apt - any trail is infinitely harder when physically and mentally fatigued. So is walking down a flight of stairs, or even finding your car keys in your pack.

Uh oh. I think the Holy Jim to Trabuco loop is close to 4500.

Love being at the bottom of some T and A!!! :Roflmao

I have. I can. Still "meh."

I get why a lot of riders love the SJT downhill - it's miles of coasting on mostly smooth singletrack. I just like a lot more spice in my downhills - or at least some well-placed berms to hold the speed. To each his/her own.
Sounds like you, @LLPoolJ, and I have similar tastes in trails.

Chunk, rock, drop, chunk, rock, hey, can I jump that?, rock, chunk, oh Sh!t!, drop...

Post up that new video you've got!!!
The jumpline from last week?

I have a few other clips from that ride. I don't upload a lot of video since I figure everyone has a camera these days and there isn't much special about mine (unless they are big gaps like that, or a nice crash). Though, I guess the 2nd out of 1171 and 4th out of 395 (I think #1 was a GPS error, and #2 cut the trail) might be fun, short clips I can upload later. Both those runs were slower than the same guy.

Glad to hear I am not the only one who thinks the SJT DH from Cocktail Rock may be the most over-valued and over-rated DH ever. Outsloped turns, rutty terrain, climbers galore, limited sight lines, often overgrown vegetation. Nope. It's a good climb (except for the ruts), but a "meh" dh. Once a year is sufficient.
With that said...

What's the "best" way down? Assuming you are on a long travel bike?

Blue jay-Sj-viejo tie-Chiquito. Bottom is San Juan loop trail lot across from candy store on Ortega highway, leave a car there and shuttle (or pedal) to blue jay, or just do an out and back from the bottom, start with ccw on San Juan loop (chunkfest) r on Chiquito, left on San Juan, left on viejo tie, r on Chiquito, r on sj loop trail and back to car. The left turn from sj onto viejo tie is easy to miss. Viejo tie and lower Chiquito is some of the funnest stuff in the SA’s, if you don’t mind tight trails somewhat overgrown. Doesn’t get anywhere near the traffic San Juan does.

Yes, that's the one!

I was climbing Space Mtn this evening and I got to the 10th or 11th SB and screwed up. Unclipped both feet and dangled them in the air (yep the switchback is awfully steep). The steed then lifts the front and rotates on the rear. I landed backwards and somehow did a 180 and ran down the trail. I heard my bike strike the wood slope planks (Lucky me, I thought I was going over said planks). I ended up about 15 feet down the trail but on my feet. Thank my lucky stars.
Happy almost giving blood on the single trac trails.

Last sunday did a quick pre Superbowl el moro loop. Not that i really understand much of football (raised with “soccer”), but it was a good game
Climbed up to Ridge Park, over to the “new” entrance of Fenceline over to Missing Link. Missing Link is getting really beaten up. It is becoming a little bit of a victim so to say of its own popularity. Makes me again convinced once more to have more single tracks parallel to fire roads. It wont fragment the habitat and people will love it. Anyway, wont happen. Over to Emerald which was a blast. Managed to do the steep bit climbing out of Emerald and then back home. About 13.5 miles and it was hot! Where is that winter???

There's a new entrance to Fenceline? It wasn't there last week (Sunday, Jan 28).

And wait - Fenceline and Missing Link both parallel the fire-road.

Yes the 2nd entrance of Fenceline is on the west side, just south of the first entrance. It is more fun. Small but fun.
Yes they are parallel and so popular. So if you had more of those, they would likely be popular too, so a good idea to add more and capacity. People tend to like up and down single tracks. Anyway it wont happen.

I don’t understand why El Moro doesn’t open the rest of Fenceline going up to the Ridge Park entrance...
