I Rode My Bike Today...

Quick spin tonight in Penasquitos

This bridge got destroyed during one of the storms. I'm surprised it got rebuilt so fast. Also surprised they didn't build it higher. Any decent storm can see the water rise 5-6 feet

Duck pond almost full. It was spilling over and down the trail after the rains. Not sure I've ever seen it this full

Tunnels is one of my favorite trail areas, but haven't ride it in some time.
Is it now "open" or still officially "closed"?
Really need to get down there for a spin soon, very soon.

Have you seen the Mtbproject app map of those trails? Are they pretty accurate. Great app if you haven't used it.

Tagged along with my friend Nathan and a couple of guys who had not ridden Aliso before. Started with 5-Oaks, which proved to be a bit of a challenge for one of the lads. AFTER 5-Oaks, I took stock of their suspension setups. What is wrong with people!!!!! Both of them had nightmare suspension set ups. Steve had his fork with 160 psi and no rebound damping. It was topping out wildly. I had to use pliers to turn the cap to get to the air valve as Steve confesses, "I've never opened that."His rear shock was at nearly full slow rebound. Manny's bike was almost opposite - slow rebound in the front and full fast on the back. I dropped them both to 100 psi in front and tuned in their rebound accordingly. Still too much air, but I didn't want to make the change so drastic they went over the bars. I similarly tuned up the rear to match the front.

They were both delighted with their new bikes as we rode Rock-It and Meadows to finish off our jaunt. Grinning ear to ear and saying things like "I don't have arm pump anymore!" Neither of these guys were newbies, but neither had even a rudimentary understanding of how to tune the suspension. If you have suspension, it is EVERYTHING in how your bike rides. The frame only matters in geometry and fit. Tires and suspension determine ride quality. I would guess that 75% of riders have way too much air in their forks.

15 miles, 2400' Only a few gusts of wind, nothing very noteworthy. Otherwise sunny and dry.

(Perfectly tuned) Bikes are fun!!!

PS: The new Meadows connector is even worse now. They really did install a 6' high, triple split rail fence along the stairs. I was so stunned, I forgot to take pictures.

Visualize said fence along the stairs!

Rode LCWP rode the new TnA. Interesting... Bottom still same cleaned it all, but took the right line on on the big drop. Took a friend down she was all grins. Top Section interesting... funny did not really appreciate the oddly spaced jumps etc in the middle after the initial turns etc... but OK. maybe after a couple rides.. anyways we have talk enough about that.

When Friend and I got back to willow, we were sitting at the table, I has watching a very petite runner finishing up... something about her posture was not right... I watched her until she tried to sit down, lets just say it did not look voluntary. Sprinted over there with D. She was not in good shape, could not drink, clammy, paleish, complained about pain in gut. Her husband drove up and sprinted over. We got her to shade and I called 9-1-1. There weren't to many people. The Medics were there in about 4 long minutes, she was not looking better. Needless to say were glad to see them.

We left once she was being attended to but still looking a bit bad, but the pros had it in-hand and we did not want to be looky loos... I am sure she got an IV and some meds and hopefully is resting comfortable. She was training for a Marathon. D. asked me what tipped me off... she just looked a bit disoriented and then that "Sit down" told me everything.

Warm Day / Dry Wind.. and of course Another 2:18 on Ol Em.

Nothing out of the ordinary just a standard tapia spin, but was fortunate enough to come across @Voodoo Tom and the one and only ever elusive @Mikie enjoying a Saturday morning ride, always nice to see these guys and glad that Mikie is back on bike

@Mikie 's back!!!! Great to see you on the steed, young man. And I see you still have the best bike pose in the business!
And how was the 1x Mikie???
Gents?
I am... one of the luckiest guys on the planet!
As is suggested above... I rode my bike today!
Not only, did I get to ride my bike and hang out with @Voodoo Tom cruising Tapia on this fine day. I got a big 'ole hug from cameo appearance @psm as he tried to sneak up behind us with his group!
Then we met a newbie named Travis who bought a used XC bike from a friend and was up trying to figure out the layout of Tapia. Well we had to oblige him. Took him up Sidewinder and then plunged into "G" Out at a cruising pace so he could get his bearings. We naturally told him about imtbtrails and hopefully he will hit us up. Great... Guy!

Afterwards VT and I went over to our favorite little Mexican Restaurant and consumed Modello's, Chips, and Salsa (in that order). Got to admit, I was nervous about a real ride with VT but he was nice to me and I felt pretty dang good out there. Wrist is not an issue, today it was lung capacity, but we know that will come back with time.

@scan ... Have to say. I LOVE THE 1X11! To tell the truth, I like the 30T upfront. Yeah, I run out of gears pretty fast on top end, but doing the super steep grind climbs which I enjoy doing, the 30x46 on 26" tires is near unstoppable. Combined with the GripShift I have pretty much lost interest in a new bike for a while. My bike is still so much fun. Cruised the climbs and cruised the singletracks... great day. Thanks Pat and Tom!

Welcome back.....you have been missed.

Don't anybody buy in to @Mikie and his BS about just cruz'n and taking it easy. Sure he may have been off the bike for a while but he hasn't missed a beat. Wind was rippin' pretty good today and hitting us head on up the climbs and he stuck it out for a good 25 mile ride. I rode the hardtail with the 100mm fork today and truly had my hands full trying to hang with him on the descents. More than once I forgot the bike I was on and ran out of traction & talent but it was all good fun. Like others have said great to have you back in action Mikie and thanks for the post ride refreshments..

That's because we all figured @Mikie was at home holding the couch down while he was recovering....turns out he was secretly attending a cult:

Ho, man, what a happy day! My old Bronson became my buddy's Bronson, and now and my wife's Bronson, too.

Gave the frame to my pal who borrowed it last year while I was on the GDMBR – a loving home, no campaigning for funds, why not. He's been hammering the bejeezus out of it!

Just wrenched up all my parts on a medium alum Bronson frame off PB for the wife. Initial short ride indicates perfect size and pure love for the bike. Not much of a ride, but the final phase of bike stoke dispersion for me old Bronson.

So yea, WE RODE! Damn, life is good. Bikes sure help! :geek:

I recommend parking and starting at Taco Plaza. It adds a little bit to the front and back end of the ride. :whistling: High of 68 next weekend in this area...
Next weekend is not good for me. Just sayin'. :whistling:
Same here, next weekend probably doesn't work. Wifey claimed it early and said I'm sticking around to help with volunteer duties at the school(she does that to me like twice a year...).

If we don't have any celebrity guests to the area, I predict a @mtnbikej death march to beat all death marches.
