I Rode My Bike Today...

Wednesday is turning into a pretty regular event... Usually it's a Motorway loop, but tonight we mixed it up and did a spin to Sierra Peak and back. Mid 60s for most of the way up, and 50s on the way down. We started at 5:00 and made it down just before dark...

A couple other bikers were out there, but I was surprised how many hikers were headed to the falls.

I got 24 miles and 3400 feet. Jason says he was there for the whole ride but his Garmin only shows 20 miles... :whistling:

Everyone must have been out on Tuesday because no one was at Oaks last night (I counted 6 MTB's). Lots of trail cleaning going on most of the trails.
Kinda nice ... BUT there was this creepy crawly at the top of Deer.

And two tarantulas, we saved one as a Tarantula Hawk was circling above it.

@SnakeCharmer

Don't know what tagged me but DAMN! Pulled a shiny back stinger from my leg that looked like a small roofing nail.

OMG the pain... burning electric shock like pain, was all I could do to stop the bike without falling. Thing flew up my shorts when I was riding full speed and got the inner thigh. Swelled up an inch tall and 8" diameter, and was burning up. About a week for the swelling to go down.
Whatever it was, it was an experience I do not want to repeat.
Wow, that's unusual because wasps generally do not release their stingers like bees do. I wonder if the offender broke apart when it made contact with you.

We saw one of those on Tuesday night out there, but it was darker on the turn just before Peralta Hills.

It's true....wanted to do something different. I do enjoy the ride out to Sierra Peak. Legs finally feeling good again.

Uneventful on the way up....just a bit breezy. Temps were cool, but I was comfortable in short sleeves.

Somewhere on the way down, my Garmin decided it was a good time to take a nap and froze up. None of the buttons worked. Eventually it turned off and I was able to restart it, but it found the "space/time continuum" out in B* and jumped to a location farther down the trail.

This is delayed, but.. I rode my (friend's) bike last Sunday evening. Up the STT to check/enjoy the greenery and occasional mustard forest; down the Luge to look for a lost Garmin. Got passed on the STT by 2 shite-bikers. Rode slow down the Luge because I was looking in every likely spot for the Garmin.

Then after cruising down Live Oak and onto El Toro, I made too fast of a right turn onto the sidewalk of Ridgeline and did a WWF body slam off the concrete. After regaining my breath and creaking out a few "yes I think I'm alright" to concerned motorists, I did a quick bike check and rode up the hill to home.

Felt as if I broke my hip and shoulder, but opted to wait and see how it played out. After awhile I was barely able to stand up or walk w/o two canes. Monday sucked. Tuesday was better. Wednesday up and down. Today a little better still.

I'd like to do some brush work on the STT, but it's gonna hafta wait a week or so. And yes, the bike appears to be OK.

That's not good! Heal up quick.

Oh man, healing vibes. Falls are tough on our old bodies

Summoning the gods of recovery to assist in your return to bike riding, Jim. Ain't that the way it goes? Primary danger over; guard goes down and sometimes we do, too. Speedy recovery with no residual issues is what I requested. Best wishes, pal!

It was the shite-bikes. They jinxed you worse than a black cat crossing your path... Heal up fast.

Thanks for the healing vibes, y'all.

I'm doing the "cyclist, heal thyself routine." NSAIDs, ice, rest, PT, cool and warm water therapy, and house stuff (cooking, stairs, trash cans..) as possible. Hoping to ease back into work by tomorrow or Monday, which right now is painting and plastering..

I feel blessed that it's not worse, and that I didn't whack anything with my head.

So he's a participant in the "Mtnbikej Bike Part Destructive Testing Service?"

I'm not sure this one qualifies... :cautious: The strap on my underseat bag broke at the stitching. It was still attached by the seat post strap, so it dipped down and rubbed the tire on one of the downhills coming back from Sierra Peak. It sounded like an airplane, but I had a velcro strap that saved the day!

And... The bag is still intact, and already re-secured to the bike until I find its replacement.

Burly!!!!!!! You're in an elite class of outdoorspeople now...

I am sure it qualifies. :) No MBPDTS denial, please.

"Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a magician!"

That sucks. It seems most of us fall hardest when not expecting it. I guess that's damn near circular logic. Heal up fast. And I'm glad you didn't hurt your friend's bike. Perhaps one day...

And yes, stay off the trail-work for a week at least. Hoping for quick healing and no injuries beyond the run-of-the-mill hematoma and/or muscle swelling.
