I Rode My Bike Today...

Beauty day. Was worried about crowds and mud, so the pedals started turning at 645 Peltzer w my buddy Vido. Up Maple to Four Corners. Met a guy on a speshy named Chris while climbing. Surf buddy Ralphie joined us at the gate. He lasted a mile. Good on him!

Caught breath at Four Corners, then descended to meet my later arriving friends. (Michael, Chad & Vido). Unfortunately I got all of the way to the pavement before running into my friends. Turned around and went back up to Four Corners. Hung with my buddy Michael on the second climb, just turned the pedals and motivated him. View attachment 23915 Over to Motorway and down. 38 miles. 5900 feet. Avg HR 159. 4:20 moving time.

Yup, I climbed Maple 4 times this week. :) Life is good.

Oh, I ran into @BonsaiNut at Four Corners.

Sounds like a great week if you ask me.

Got out for Suz's Sunday Springtime Sunshine Spin.....or the short version: a ride with my wife. Mid afternoon start. Just decided to stay local and head over to the Oaks. Decided to take the lazy man's bike. Did the original Oaks loop with her, then she headed home.

My game face....her game face....

The rocks on the way to modjeska were nice and packed down. Made an easy go to the peak.

Yeah I normally struggle on that rock step right in the middle of the rock garden because it is usually loose as hell. It was actually pretty good right there - and the rest of it was packed really tight. I kept looking at landmarks thinking - wait a minute isn't it normally really crappy right here? I hung out at the radar towers for about ten minutes just snapping pics because it felt so good.

Nice... When the stars align, you'll have to give it a try at night!

Yesterday I rode Whiting, Luge and O'Neil pedaling from home. Mustard was a little muddy in parts, but other than that, everything else was great. The Luge was in great shape. Oh and by the end I thought my legs would fall off. My longest ride to date, both in miles and elevation.

Rode my bike this morning, probably.
I might have met up with @rossage at Switzers to ride Strawberry, not gonna admit it though. Oh and my perennial shadow Jose refused to stay home.
So there I was trying to zone out and tune out the perfect weather and the so-so views, while my riding "companions" droned on and on about this and that.
What-ever, leave me alone ok? Geez what does a guy have to do to ride in relative peace and quiet. Goodbye solitude.
7:30 freakin AM meet up time means it's still cold out, why me I ask to no one in particular. Ok, put my head down and start climbing, and climbing, and climbing. Up Josephine fire road to the upper saddle.

Why do we have to climb all the way up there??

Even the bikes got tired of climbing, they bucked us off and said "Screw it" we are laying down right HERE.

Where's the rain? The smog? I can see downtown L.A., Palos Verdes, and that cast off island Catalina. Geez it sooooo purdy....NOT

My bike was offering the last chance to just stop, lay down next to her and just stare up at the sky.

@rossage looked out at the city below and said, could you imagine looking out at the city and suddenly a mushroom shaped cloud suddenly appeared???
In a morbid sense, I felt that was pretty funny. So this cartoon is for you, you sick puppy:

Oh the rest of the ride was "Fun" and the company was tolerable.

15.5 or so miles, probably 2700 feet of elevation. Nobody pays attention anyway...

:unsure::whistling:;):D:D:D
...Did you say something?

Haven't been riding much lately due to a cold/flu/cold:sick: Finally back on the bike and rode a 32/2800 Floop yesterday. Most of the Floop was dry enough to not even get dirty. Just a couple puddles that were easily avoidable. No route planned, just kept riding. Today I got together with Vince and @PATKOUG for a ride at one of my favorite places, Sycamore in Riverside:thumbsup:. Hero dirt everywhere but have to keep an eye out for deep ruts. Got stuck in two. One going down Rattlesnake and the other down Terry's Wall. No crashes though. Gorgeous day with perfect weather IMO. Again no route planned, just kept riding. Rocks, drops. rollers, small jumps, single track!!!! Vince digg'n his new I9's.

Congrats on that – way to hit the pedals and grips, man!

@Grego: Progeny is looking quite skilled. But tell him I said Dood Kills It, or some other acceptable translation. : )

I was flummoxed about my creaking derailleur so I fear I wasn't entirely present in the moment.

He said flummoxed...I will meet your flummox and raise you a superfluous.

As in: Yesterday was such a beautiful day that there was a superfluity of reports. I enjoyed reading them all.

So I was poking around to see at the end of the day Strava Stats. Death by Luge is my favorite Luge Segment.

And I saw this ... it made me smile... 22o folks strava'd the Luge yesterday (and I am sure there where many that did not) . I as not one.

And my ride....

I went from Obiwan to Padiwan. Saturday to Sunday.

On Saturday I road Maple Motorway again (I know, but I had a Brit friend out that likes that ride). Saturday I was the man, helped corral a group of hikers that got separated, helped my friend with is dropper post sticking, and the PR'd Motorway again including navigating a little boxxer that could not decide if he was afraid or wanted to eat me. The Motorway may have been the best I have ridden, my friend also PR'd and knocked a ton off his time. The dirt was so awesome I just stuck to the off cambers and the spines.

Then Sunday I went for an afternoon ride, just a short loop through LCWP my normal short loop. Funny guess I was tired, first thing LCWP seem to have taken the rain for the most part very well. Some black snot on Lizards and once place at the top of Willow that was a rut fest but otherwise good.

BUT there has been some changes ... I think for the good for the tech. Lizard, the rocky section some of the dirt is washed away, so you need to pick the rocks or the dirt I would not try to transition between the two.
I wasn't real fast.

And Camarillo, "The" rock turn is about the same but that next rocky section / straightaway now has some teeth or more correctly Molars... as in the dirt is washed away between the big rocks ... new choices to be made... Of course I didn't make one and DOH-dabbed as I was staring at the rocks and not down trail.

I dabbed all over the place didn't have much rhythm, then on the last little tech climb on stagecoach up and thought that gate, I like to Wheelie / clean through the gate of course I dabbed right before then tried to wheelie and smashed my pinkie against the post AND put a hole in the brand new glove. Then to kick it off.. willow seemed like I was climbing Maple it was endless!

All that said anyways riding is better than not, it was a gorgeous afternoon.

Ohh and I heard Toads in LCWP .. yeah baby!

sycamore canyon??
Today was my first ride of the new year! Between work, weather, and sick friends I haven't had a chance to get out and spin the wheels since last Thursday, so I was determined to get out for at least a short ride today. Weather and conditions were perfect!

I've been mulling over the idea of building up a SS bike, so being foolish and feeling up to an extra challenge, I kept the gearing at 32/18 for the entire ride. I surprised myself by cleaning the entire ride without problem. I can definitely see a SS being added to the stable in the near future!

Well, the closest thing to a "window" seemed like today, so I aimed for the Holy Jims. Plan to ride up without foul weather gear until the fun diminished, then u-turn, which I did at Main Divide.

A fine tool for the job:

Conditions: Wet! Lots of water in the air and the foliage, and on the trail. Low 50s, wind not bad. Two hikers seen in the creek bottom, no others. Crazy and cool in the weird weather...thought I was in Franconia Notch or Mendo County :geek:

PS: No mud, as you can see.

Of course!, I mean somewhere in that canyon, hj, west horsethief, trabuco. Id probably drive to the gate and pedal from there. However maybe itd be a good idea to avoid that road actually durin a storm in light of the saturated soil and mudslide danger thats been happening since that fire. But that spot is past the gate right? Im not quite sure yet when im going, may go later in the day after its predicted to clear up. What are you up to tomorry?

...I guess i shouldve put this in the "Im gonna ride somewhere" thread

Crashnot, I have work, so no trailage for me. The debris is up at Fern Spring near the fire barn. It's totally solid except for a little mud on either side of it which can be avoided. Have a great time somewhere
