I Rode My Bike Today...

Took Ol Blue out for a spin on the road today.
I will say road riding is so much easier than riding dirt. 91° on the pavement feels hot.

As a side note my son bought me a REI Sahara Shade hoodie (long sleeve) that I used for the first time. With moisture wicking, fast drying, and a uv protection rating of 50, I am sold on these for bike riding.
Like wearing a t-shirt without the clingyness when it is soaked in sweat......

Are you going to do some mt. biking anytime in the near future? Do IT!!!

I know I know. I think I have been a little gun shy since my crash a couple months ago. I also have been training for a new for a new job the last 2 months and they have been making it very clear any absences better have a really good reason. Not sure if that's an excuse, but it has been on my mind. Also the last couple mountain rides I really feel like my skills have really regressed. I haven't tried to make the pump track either. It seems like every time I go, even just to watch, I'm hearing about someone close's shoulder or concussion... I don't know what I need to do to get my mojo back, but that's what's going on with me. I have just been enjoying group rides and easy work out rides, like today at the beach. Took it easy, less than 10 miles I think.

Way to plunder the conditions, everyone.

My goal yesterday was to get high and stay high until the end.

Sierra Canyon and Carson Valley

Up Sierra Canyon, across the Rim, over to Marlette Lake and back, with lots of stopped time. 10.5 hours total with ideal conditions at elevation.

Yesterday was awful for me. I felt out of sorts from head to toe so I needed a good soul watering today. I found it this morning on the lower front range...

Climbed Fern TT to Brown TT and climbed some more to reach the turn around spot, Ken Burton TH. I saw almost nobody up there today which made it even more peaceful. Temps stayed nice for me the whole way up and most of the way down, topped by a nice breeze to keep the humid air moving. The usual "air conditioners" were all cooling me off nicely on the climb as I passed by each. It was quite cool to start the ride as I pedaled by the Arroyo. 13, 2000

Here's a lengthy video coming back down Brown Mtn TT for all my fellow Flowbros.

I didn't ride my bike today. It is scheduled departure time, BUT, we had Islands dinner to go and I got a marg my daughter in law got a Mai Tai. The marg is good, but she gave me a glass of the Mai Tai. So I am not departing now. Sorry, But I have a bit of my marg left to go. Wow, let the good times roll. Sunset just happened so oh well.....
Happy trails on the light and dark rum runs

I've been riding city pavement lately rather than taking the time going to Chino or Black Star. I can't say I love dodging cars. I find myself riding a few sidewalks not to be run over by distracted drivers in a few spots. Still, I'd rather pedal a bike than go to a fitness gym. My last 2 rides were an average of 15 mph. Today 12 mi/ Hardley any climbing but some.Well there you go. My Apple Watch has me at 12.3 average and Strava at 15 mph average.

New dirt for me today, on another trail quite close to home. Took dirt Mulholland and Temescal out to the section of Backbone that runs from Temescal down to Will Rogers state park. It's been on the list for a while, but is often over grown, and requires a lot of fire road to get to. 6 miles each way of flowy, scenic, yet remote feeling single track. I actually only made it 4 miles before turning back as the bottom of the trail is still super over grown. Nothing like the exploratory feeling of new dirt, though some climbs on loose shale were pretty rough on the single speed. 19.5/2578

It's been decades since I rolled that stuff.

It's a weird destination ride, with 6 miles of fire road each way to get to it, but I found it really enjoyable. Unless you're starting from the west side, so much of the stuff in that section of the Santa Monica's is a hike to get to, but it's really cool how remote some of it can feel when you dip out of view of the city.

Mountain biking is an adventure for sure and I enjoy it all, good or bad.
Going to meet up with a couple of locals, a father and his 10 year old son, at 007 for a couple of laps. The kid is scary fast on a MX and MTB. On my best day he is still faster on the downhill.

I was waiting for them at the parking area and decided to be a social butterfly with a few of the guys that looked lost.
Both have never been on these trails. One was from Santa Barbara visiting his mom and the other one was from SoCal. They were pointed in the direction of the trails that suited their skills and bikes.

As I climbed aboard The Beast within the first two pedal strokes........snap goes the chain.
Walked back to the car took out my tool box and fixed it with a "quick link". Good to go.

My buddy called me and asked where I was. They were dropped off by his wife and were waiting up the fireroad a bit. Cool I'll catch up to them.

This time I made it to the paved road to cross it......and you guessd it....... snap goes the chain, in a new place about 30 links past the one I fixed.
That's it, someone put a curse on my chain and doesn't want me to ride today.

My buddy comes strolling into the parking area and was wondering what happened. I told him the story and then offered me a new chain that he had at his house, about 10 minutes away. Sweeeet. I get to ride. Installed the new chain and it was off to the races.

The 4 mile climb was quite nice with the temp at 62°. I was slow, as usual, but the pace was crisp, so he pedaled his e-bike with the motor off, showing some mercy.

The downhill, 1st section of 007, was uneventful and I think I saw junior about 2.3 seconds at the start......
My buddy showed me some better lines than I was taking so it was abit faster. It was a good run. I ended using all of my fork travel and it felt a little too soft at the begining of the stroke so I may tweek the settings a little after I check the sag. The shock was like butter.

I didn't get any stats for the ride.
Not just one
