Mountain biking is an adventure for sure and I enjoy it all, good or bad.
Going to meet up with a couple of locals, a father and his 10 year old son, at 007 for a couple of laps. The kid is scary fast on a MX and MTB. On my best day he is still faster on the downhill.
I was waiting for them at the parking area and decided to be a social butterfly with a few of the guys that looked lost.
Both have never been on these trails. One was from Santa Barbara visiting his mom and the other one was from SoCal. They were pointed in the direction of the trails that suited their skills and bikes.
As I climbed aboard The Beast within the first two pedal strokes........snap goes the chain.
Walked back to the car took out my tool box and fixed it with a "quick link". Good to go.
My buddy called me and asked where I was. They were dropped off by his wife and were waiting up the fireroad a bit. Cool I'll catch up to them.
This time I made it to the paved road to cross it......and you guessd it....... snap goes the chain, in a new place about 30 links past the one I fixed.
That's it, someone put a curse on my chain and doesn't want me to ride today.
My buddy comes strolling into the parking area and was wondering what happened. I told him the story and then offered me a new chain that he had at his house, about 10 minutes away. Sweeeet. I get to ride. Installed the new chain and it was off to the races.
The 4 mile climb was quite nice with the temp at 62°. I was slow, as usual, but the pace was crisp, so he pedaled his e-bike with the motor off, showing some mercy.
The downhill, 1st section of 007, was uneventful and I think I saw junior about 2.3 seconds at the start......
My buddy showed me some better lines than I was taking so it was abit faster. It was a good run. I ended using all of my fork travel and it felt a little too soft at the begining of the stroke so I may tweek the settings a little after I check the sag. The shock was like butter.
I didn't get any stats for the ride.
Not just one
But twooooooo
