I Rode My Bike Today...

Black Star/ Boobytrap on my Lynskey 29-140/140 today. It has DHF front and a Rekon on the rear not a Minion. It tracked really well going down Boobytrap. I've been riding the Ripley so much I forgot that this Titanium Lynskey weighs more. I bet it's 2-3 lbs heavier of a bike than the Ripley. Smooth bike! What's a bump? Anyway 15.7 mi/ 1,900 climbing.

It would be a lot lighter if it weren't laden with a sleeping bag and whatever else you have strapped to it.

I know you're a better rider than I am, but between your overloaded bike and your 68° effective seat tube angle, you certainly like a challenge! You do you!

The usual loop Sunday morning. Switchbacks got a trimming which made it much less difficult to navigate down from the bench. Loop is running really Goood right now. Singletracks near cloverleaf gate need some trimming. Might have to get those myself since I don’t think the city tends to unofficial trails.

I dun rodified my bike today. It's been two weeks. It felt like it had been a year.

Whiting-Luge- Whiting from the Wahoos lot - which has become my only route lately. I will re-add Aliso either tomorrow or next weekend.

Great weather and great company with @Bill. Lots of sand and hikers on Borrego - as expected. Not many folks on STT. At the flag, there were two guys who were talking about taking some air out of their tires. One guy exclaimed that "there's a lot of pavement on this ride and I want my tires as firm as possible." Bill and I both jumped on that as an incorrect assumption / myth. Dude must have had a solid 40 psi in his tires. We helped him out a little, then I tested his suspension for him. Fork had a blown rebound damping circuit - I could turn the knob, but it had zero effect - there was NO rebound damping (Fox 34. Ibis Ripley AF). BOING BOING! After helping him and his buddy with suspension and tire setup, we parted company.

I had a solid ride down The Luge. Someone came in and did some trimming of the vegetation so the two shrub tunnels were back to normal. When we re-grouped I told Bill, "that was probably about a 3:50 - maybe a little under" (my new fun normal, 10% slower than my pre-injury times). It was 3:49. I don't actually know my times on any other trail or DH segment - but The Luge is special.

The rest of the ride was a struggle. Like Memorial day, I was just out of gas. Unlike Memorial Day - I had calories with me. The 4 Clif blocks probably kept me from cramping, but I was still exhausted. Completed the full W-L-W figure 8, then headed into Wahoos to refuel. Thanks for hangin' with me today, Bill!

Nap time.
15.8 m / 2330' Hi temp might have hit 70? Bikes are fun! :)

NOTE: The heroic veggie trimmer was a guy named Jason - a friend of the elusive trail-shaping god @kioti

Herz sent me a ride invite, had a previous ride commitment so had to decline. Glad he got out.
I rode from RSM, up the ridge above Coto and down Tijeras creek. Even though is is mostly fire road like, there is ARC and some single track shown in. One arrived at WaterWorks headed down it! It's mostly a jump track now, but can skip them and have a fun ride anyways. Although short it's fun enough so I rode it twice. Then rode back up to Rancho Santa Marg..Been two years since I've done this ride and glad I did! No sun, 60 deg and a blast.
18.1/1700.

I hit the trails. Was thinking of near the coast due to potential heat, but the forecast changed so I went to oaks\weir canyon. Nice cool and cloudy. Good number of bikes and several small groups of hikers. Overgrown in several places making some of the downs slower. Great to get out on the dirt!!

I did a Tour de Verdugos loop from da 'hood yesterday. The upper half of the mountain was shrouded in marine layer clouds. Typical June Gloom. The climb up Beaudry North FR went well. I was hoping that when I topped out at the max elevation of the ride (3K'), I'd be above the clouds but no such luck. I was swallowed to some extent by clouds the entire time that I was on the upper half of the mountain. At the top of Beaudry North FR, I continued onward to merge onto Verdugo Motorway. From there I continued on to the Hostetter FR junction (La Tuna Canyon), where I would finally stop to take my first break. Not really anything to see where views were concerned up there except for wildflowers that were swallowed by the clouds. I had to drop Hostetter cautiously because it has just been grated. About half way down, I was out of the clouds. At the bottom, I merged onto Edison FR and took that along the base of the range to CV Park. The pass through the Park kept me off pavement. From there it was a mile of pavement roll back to mi barrio. 13.33, 2375

Good destination ride?

The trails are great but like Tahoe, you are going to put in some effort to get to the best stuff. The highlight trail yesterday was Full Sail and it was FANTASTIC but we climbed 7+ miles and 1400+ to get to it. We rode all single track and could have rode up Schultz Creek Rd to minimize the pain. For the most part, they build techier trails up here as opposed to Prescott so if that's your jam, it's a great place to ride. I have to say we've ate very well on top of the riding.

Aside from Full Sail, check out their newest DH trail 'Meteoride'

I would say so. It’s my first time riding up here and both rides were stellar. There are a ton of trails in the area and they do a lot of trail work here.

That's pretty darn hectic!

Not today, but this last saturday... I did the counting coup event. I've wanted to do it for years, but never had the fitness, spine health or the drive to make it happen. I've been doing lots of big rides this year and training harder then I have in the last decade and figured, what the heck, might as well do it.

My friend and I started at 5:30 am. I started slow and rode to the doppler ball with my buddy at a pace well under what I would have done if running solo. It was obvious his qty of desired breaks and overall pace was going to be very different then mine so we went on our own ways from there. Conditions were amazing, we had marine layer that was at the height of the doppler ball until well into 10am. The ride from the doppler ball to motorway was sunny but still on the cooler side for main divide. I traded back and forth with a few of the fast peeps along the way trading faster descents (me) for their faster climbing pace.

Dropped into motorway and had a nice run, ended up in the 3 times down motorway (according to strava) for the day. Half way down motorway the marine layer showed up again. I scarfed down some pizza, at the bottom of maple springs and headed up towards the peak. I was able to hammer away at the peak climb and next thing I knew after dodging all of the bro-dozers doing their own saturday baja run, I was at 4 corners. There I ate some smoked salmon and rice balls and walked around in circles for a minute before heading off to the peak. I was a bit in the pain cave at this point, but my body felt great so I started pushing the pace again leading up to the peak. The descent down from the peak was awesome and once again according to strava I had the 5th fastest time down HJ for the day.

Overall, and I rarely say this about myself or my performance on the bike, I crushed it. I vastly exceeded my expectations and managed to set PRs on this ride despite it being the longest/hardest ride I've ever done. I didn't have any cramping issues, despite getting a bit on the backside of hydration and nutrition at one point on the ride. Overall, it's a great route that I will for sure do again... but i'll wait until the gate is closed.
