I Rode My Bike Today...

I had an annual pass for two years. I gave it up after the place was overrun by eBikes. I did not care about them on the downhills, but they always blasted by on the climb, and at narrow spots or the switchbacks. An eBike only uphill actually sounds like an improvement.
It's an improvement in concept, but I only saw a few ebikers use it all after noon. I was pausing to look at the sign at the bottom of that newer upline, and a couple ebikers passed by me and told me something to the effect of "It's too steep." o_O
No one was trying to pass me in narrow spots, and in fact several ebikers patiently stayed behind me until I gave them a signal to pass. I can see how that could change on a busy day though.
I did see several towing arrangements on the upline, too! A couple people had dedicated straps, from seatpost on the front bike to stem on the rear bike, and then there were these two future engineers who used a long, straight-ish stick, held in one hand each. They made it work.

Yesterday actually.
Short ride to try and get acclimated to the elevation. Had to hurry because my son and I had dad/grandpa duty deadline. Fun, sketchy, rutted descent through the scrub oak and dodging deer carcasses (well - only one but still!)

We have a ride planned for the 4th at real elevation. I have a feeling it will be a challenge with only 6 short rides after two months off the bike.

Santiago Oaks this morning. It started off nice and overcast, and I was feeling really good at first. Once the sun came out, the place got hot fast. I was sweating buckets, so I will probably need two LMNT's today. :eek:

Fenceline (which was a mistake because it was super overgrown, and I had to stop three times and then again at the end to pull weeds out of my cassette :mad:), Barham, Yucca, Peralta, Grasshopper & Ridgeline for the fun stuff, plus some drops at the Flag as usual. I was going to hit some jumps, but the area was packed with kids and eBikes, so I passed. Someone actually cut back the weeds on Peralta, which was nice compared to the last time I rode it.

They did some grading on Barham and 3B's, but it was not too bad. At least they did not cover the chunk and the drop on Barham this time. :rolleyes:

Good fun, and I am glad I started early because that place gets hot quick.

I meant to ask... How was the PO on Idlehour the other day? Better, same or worse than when we were there?
Worse, for sure. All the brush has come in thicker. Definitely had to tip toe around some PO a few more times. And there is a branch hanging down from above at chest height coming out of one of the fir tree sections.

The poodle dog on Kenyon devore was much much worse though.

Got charged by a big, black, off-leash dog. Saw a couple walking what looked like a coyote heading up towards top o' the world (SGV version), then saw the 2nd dog and it locked onto me from about 50 yds away and charged downhill straight at me. It was like a Nazi SS kill machine, lunging and snarling. I had enough time to dismount and get my bike between me and it. I was raising my bike to fend it off while dipstick was yelling at the dog from up the hill. Amazingly, about the 10th time he yelled the dog's name, it turned and beelined back up the hill. Shithead said sorry about that, like that made it all good. It happened so fast that I wasn't scared, not really like time slowing down but all happening in real time and almost surreal. It's not the first time around there. A month ago or so a shepherd pinned me against the rock wall but wasn't trying to kill me. That asshat said "oh, he's friendly". Heard that one many times. Friendly is a human characteristic. Dogs aren't human. They have other things going on in their pea brains.

I feared for my life and great bodily harm, so I shot the dog in self defense, and there was nothing else I could have done.
End of story.
I never had to draw mine, yet.

More than one occasion when were dogs are snarling and chasing me I've jumped off my bike and charged the dog yelling saying " I'm gonna you kill MxxherfXXer!" and the owner had the balls to say I was out of line. F@ck that you should of had a leash. kill the little pea brain dog or get bit trying. Just my opinion and I'm all for it. But there may be occasions where it's just too much....

When being attacked by a dog kick your foot out to get the first hit on its head. keep kicking every time it lunges. Find a good stick then swing at its head. Always go for the first strike and always at the head. The object is to do damage, but they never let you connect. I have had some vicious dogs attack for a long time, eventually they tire you had better not

The cutting of the wooden cross appears to be caused by vandals;

I don't know who this retreat center is, but they show their address as Baker Canyon, the right hand turn before you get to the gate. Last I checked Blackstar Canyon Rd was not within part of that retreat center, nor was that cross.....It was outside any fences on the public road. It was an eyesore, and who asked them to put that up in the first place. You wanna display that on your property, go for it. Blackstar Canyon Rd isn't.

Interesting you mentioned this, as although I know nada about Black star had a feeling that was probably the case.

The cutting of the wooden cross appears to be caused by vandals;

...by definition.

I don't think there is a group of people called the Vandals* or who identify as vandals, so therefore, if their act is vandalism, they are vandals.

That said - couldn't we consider erecting a structure on public land without permission some form of vandalism too?

*(HB Band or 2nd-century European tribe notwithstanding)

And do you know for a fact that the Vandals or a member of ( the band ) didn't do it? It's a safe assumption though.

But more importantly, my execution of English sucks, and IDC :p

( You'd have a conniption fit of you had to converse with my co workers or wife. Italian and farsi at their first language and I'm constantly reading between the lines to know what they're really
Saying, and it doesn't bother me at all. Well not often anyway :D)

On the contrary - English as your second language provides an excuse! No problemo!

There is nothing wrong with the grammar in the sentence you posted, by the way. I was just commenting on the fact that we ascribe something as "done by vandals" when there is a property crime without a known perpetrator.
