I Rode My Bike Today...

I can smell the bass in that river from here.
Can you smell them now?

My Single speed is ready to ride tomorrow

I rode today... After being in San Francisco for a few days, I was dying for a ride on Stumpy. So I headed out at 2:00. :gag: Weather Underground said it was 91 when I rolled, but I knew that I'd gain quite a few degrees on the hotter parts of Lower Sam Merrill. It's a given in a couple sections. I only saw 3 hikers headed down near the bottom, and they all looked gassed. Not a soul after that...

Stumpy felt really stiff today, but I think I know the reason after consulting with the on-line help desk. @mtnbikej

I met @Rumpled today. Jim is a swimmer with a thick skin. We rode with the Smeegies and rendezvoused with Doug for a few loops and jaunt to O’Neil Camp. Headed back and tried to charge Waterworks. Going back to cars, Rumpled gave me an awesome Pliney Elder that hit the spot. Actually nailed the spot!View attachment 65375
A quick Safety Break and I get the oomph for 11 more miles. It was a glorious afternoon outside with Froinds.
12.44/1,562’ with Crazy Bear and Piney the Elder!

Maple Spring to 4 Corners. Rode through the open gate and encountered lots of Flowers, PO and Fricking Gnats. Had been keeping a head net on board for a while and today was the first deployment of the year. Much need. Made it up the asphalt to the dirt. Hardpacked and covered with dust and gravel. On one segment the lack of traction made it feel like riding on a flat rear tire. No problem, happy to be riding and had a good time. One hiker, no other bike riders and sparse motor vehicle traffic. 14.76 / 2,559

Brown and El Prieto with @SnakeCharmer and @Sasquatch9billion starting at 6:30 from JPL. Mellow pace up the mountain with no PRs in danger. We hit the soup at the bench, and were in it all the way to the Ken Burton saddle.

The recent work by MWBA was freaking awesome! Sections that were overgrown with zero sight lines are now 1000x safer.

Visibility in the soup was pretty bad headed back down Brown, so it was a really mellow controlled run. We saw some runners and a couple Moto-riders. I just tried to be smooth on Stumpy and pop off things where I could. She is absolutely running smooth as silk right now. :inlove:

This was one of those really good rides... The bike was smooth, the riders in the group were all smooth, and it was just a great morning to be out on the bike. :inlove:

Um... Never knew there was a wall here.  The trail and bushes used to be about 12 inches wide here and there was zero visibility.

So much safer for weekend traffic...

We had to stop for some hikers near the end of El Prieto, so I snapped a shot...

Added on some road miles for extra credit and ended up with 21/2500.

San Clemente Single Tracks yesterday with @pdqmach26 and a few others. Somebody has put up trail signage everywhere which is pretty cool. A lot of them are Taladega Nights references like Ricky Bobby and Shake & Bake. Seems like every time I go there there’s a new fun trail to ride. 12.5 miles/1,955 feet.

Today was a solo run at Black Mountain. I got an early start and didn’t see one other person the entire time I was out. Unfortunately the legs just weren’t feeling it today so I just did a quick ride. 8.6 miles/1,335 feet.

Saturn's Day: Peltzer Pines to the Cattle Xing Sign, which I remember as being yellow but now is void of all the paint except for some slim remnants around the outer edge. Another mystery in the paranormal history of Blackstar Canyon ?? If you think not, read on!!

On the way up, encountered 10 mountain bikes descending and lots of hikers. Also got buzzed by 4 ebikes. Saw the clouds swallowing the D Ball and dropping down as viewed from the 2nd Mariposa Sign. Didn't want to get into that stuff and turned around.

Made it back to my car at 8:30 PM and discovered that it would not start. Call the insurance co. and waited for the tow truck to finally arrive at 3:30 AM. After getting a little bit of sleep, got back up early and got towed again to a shop that was open Sunday. New starter and battery were installed. Had previously made an arrangement with friends to meet them at a feed the homeless event in Norwalk which ended at noon. Made it in time but the event had ended early and they had left. They had called me twice but my phone did not ring despite of working fine before and after. Was going to give them 1 case of (organic, my choice) peanut butter and 1 case the same berry jelly which they would deliver to a feed homeless women event next Sunday in Playa Del Rey. I had committed to produce so had to now drive the extra distance on very little sleep. Good news is that I made it back whole so all is well. 14.o3 / 1,522 bike ride total adventure 145 miles

been doing this and that so no bother with posting... this past saturday went back to san clemente. this place is getting better and better.. hard to say which is better greer or dog park?? both so much fun and well made/designed... lots of ups and downs..
main climbing single track leads you to so many flowy/jumpy/steep downs.. cool perfect weather too... AND just like oaks there is a board and brew right near by... perfect day riding... was getting a bit bored w/ oaks/aliso/el mo rotation... gotta mix it up..

Black Star Gremlins. No other explanation.

I'm gonna have to go give this a second try. The first time I rode out there about four years ago was also my last. That's how enamored I was. And I live ten miles away.

herz.. no chunk.. just steeps. jumps.. many human made features.. its very different than el mo, aliso. oaks.. its 40 minutes from me but well worth the drive...

I think my days of gap jumps are over - before they really began. So if I'm not interested in jumps, I am guessing that diminishes the appeal of the new and improved Weed Patch?

Best flow trails in Orange County.
I like small to medium jumps, but no big stuff and I am not a fan of gap jumps. The last time I was there almost all of the jumps & features could easily be skipped.

Unless I stick to the trails I know, I usually get lost out there. There are soooo many trails that fork off of other trails that it is impossible for me to keep it all straight. One day I will ride with some locals ... but I have been saying that since the first time I rode out there.

I think I might hit it this weekend as it has been awhile.

Maybe I can keep you company?
