I Rode My Bike Today...

Dude says “come on up… we’ll do a mellow ride. 10 miles and 2000 feet…”

At 4000 feet, I got a little suspicious that I was punked by The Fire Road Bandit! He was a machine! :cautious:

I think we did circles until he found a climb I couldn’t clean. I cried "Uncle!"

Fun day… Ending with tacos and a Greek coffee to enjoy on the drive home. :inlove:

22.2/4250

P.s. I almost gave some firemen wounds to treat… And a show. :whistling:

So a recurring theme for today’s ride is me hammering up the hills as best I can, and I hear a skidding tire over and over and over again. Poor Faustie almost rammed me a dozen times on the climbs. :cautious:
He didn’t have to talk smack, but he was rather articulate with his expressions.

Really fun lap of the Cheese with @SnakeCharmer today. Did the standard lap with the extra credit finish, and after the roughing up it got from the series of storms last month, it's been ridden back into a slightly smoother and pretty fast state, albeit with a few altered lines. Speaking of lines, I botched a few on the final DH, but it just added to the high speed shenanigans. Menacing winds to start, but it kept the temps in check making for a very comfortable ride. The Cheese was looking pretty in its green coat. Good vibes and just good old-fashioned fun was the theme, and it was good to be back in the ol' stompin' ground with @SnakeCharmer . 13.4/1711. Bikes are fun.

It sure was fun to be back there again with you Bugg. I've got some videos of the day's ride to share:

Hey wait a minute! I advertised the ride as a mild fire road jaunt, and you told me you liked it! ...and I told you I love you! What is happening here!?

I enjoyed the ride tremendously... :inlove: But I didn't expect you to get all giggly on a fire road! Mr. "gotta chase chunky Strava cups".

I almost fell off the bike when you pointed out how a short section was turning into single track. I nodded, but I really didn't see it... I did remind you that you gave @BonsaiNut a lot of :poop: when he said the same about Harding.

Did any tires not make it?? You know how hard those fire roads are on tires and chains...:p

I was thrilled that I didn’t hurt…and unfortunately I was too scared to take the Ridgeline single track down from the summit (it don’t help that you didn’t nudge me to take the risk; thank you for that by the way). Still, when there is an option to drop Harding or Joplin, come on…

You have to learn to enjoy the pain. Harding is this weird state of mind for me - particularly when I would hit it before dawn. Grinding up that grade, in the pre-dawn hours, with the sun coming up and the view of the Pacific. Nothing but you and the coyotes and tarantulas... And then you turn around and it is this 30 minute downhill nirvana of fireroad descent. You get to the car and you're tired, and you realize that you just smacked 3400 feet of climb in the ass. It's not technical - it's cardio. And as I get older I pay much more attention to the cardio... and consider technical frosting on the cake. And if you're really lucky, you roll into your garage right about the time your wife is waking up.

"Did you have a good ride?"

"Yeah"

To me the meanest flower that blows can give thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.

That's very poetic and beautiful even though I can't relate to or agree with any of it. I can hear the passion.

That’s all good but Joplin.

the 1st time at Montana de Oro. Saw 1 other rider! Got me thinking about retirement :)

Been a long week at a trade show in Vegas. 12 hour days, never leaving the building with the joy of casino stale air and smoke. At the end my lungs and throat hurt, had a dry cough and was thinking needed to go to urgent care. Walked out to the car and boy the fresh air smelled good!
Then 12 hours later it was like magic... felt almost 100%...all i needed was fresh air! f'in casinos. That place will kill you!

So I went in a ride today, same place as usual but changed up the trails slightly. It was glorious! Low 60s and sunny....I told my co worker...haha... they have a low of 4°and high of 16°, they can keep it.
California, I like it here, crowds and all.

Now I have to pack for a week at trade show in Orlando... :gag:

Damn!

I can’t imagine doing a couple of those as uphills- Middle Merrill and Disappointment. Pretty sure that old pro who’s climbing all the techy downhills in Laguna on his e-bike would not make it up those.

The person who could pull off that ride is beyond human.

And doing the math in my head, his climbing numbers are a couple thousand feet low.
