how do you motivate?

Interesting read - the antithesis of what everyone is told about getting ready (motivating) for a huge event.

That is a very interesting read... And it certainly sounds like he's found his cycling nirvana, however pain filled it may be. My personal pain cave is hamster sized, but that is still a lot bigger than it was a few years back. :-)

I enjoyed reading that. It's nice to know there are other crazy people I can't relate to, like J, Scissors and Faust. I have no room for a "pain cave" in my tiny 1000 sq ft home. I don't even have a "man cave" (garage or space for doing things like drinking beer and/or playing electric guitar). I do like the feeling of challenging my lungs, heart and other muscles, but certainly not to the extent of even the average IMTB dude or dudette. The PC is a psychological condition I never visit.

So Big Bear was just the medicine I needed. :D  The thunderstorm that was looming while we rode yesterday brought in a wonderful cold breeze that felt AWESOME. There is definitely something about the mountain air, pine trees, ferns and flowers up there that just invigorates me.

So there it is... All I need for motivation is to read couple of good RR on imtbtails and then plan a trip to big bear. that seems to do the trick. ;)

Big Bear is a nice getaway for certain. I love spending time there, especially when everywhere else is scorching hot.

For the rest of the time, I find switching up rides, and types of riding keeps things interesting. Even. . . . . *gasp*. . . . . road riding. I find myself switching between road and MTB pretty regularly these days. Currently interested in doing some 'adventure' type rides that have a mix of road and dirt. Go see some places and things I have not yet experienced, at least not in the same way.
