Hitch ??

Nothing says compensation more than in order:
1. Unnecessary lift (looks only). You actually off road? Cool, no problem.
2. Truck nuts (seriously, why?)
3. Exhaust in the bed. Talk about ruining the purpose of a truck bed! I used to load hay in the bed, you know, like a truck should be used for!
Several people are running out to the parking lot to remove them off their trucks right now... :coffee:

Well... accept for @LLPoolJ who is in between pool stops at Manny Moe and Jacks!

Years ago I pulled up to work in my brand new 2001 Toyota RAV4. One of my co-workers asked why I didn't buy a full size truck like him. I told him I didn't need to compensate for anything. He never spoke to me again.

@scan, testicles have invaded your thread, and I had nothing to do with it. Just sayin’.

By the way, I did what @Runs with Scissors did for his wife’s rig (i.e., U-Haul full service). They actually showed me that they paid $90 to the manufacturer for the hitch, and they sold it to me for $170 plus $20 for the install (took about 1.5 hours). Those are pretty good labor rates, unless it only took them 10 minutes and then sat around browsing social media while at work the rest of the time.

By the other way, I have a pair as well. But they are held in trust by the Mrs.

Now I understand. How was she made?
Oh, I know this one!

I loved my F150 Super Crew. Hauled a half ton of hay (being a half ton truck), bikes, camping gear, dog(s) inside, did everything for me. Lost in the divorce...now I love my Fiesta, but I don't have Dog or a horse anymore :)

Sounds reasonable to me. I did my own on my last two cars (PT Loser and Fiesta), real easy job.

I'd luv a hitch on my 3 series but my particular vintage cannot accept a hitch so I have a roof mount which I think
looks even more out of place than a hitch.
OOOHH NO , the coolness factor of a mtb on your roof!!!!:thumbsup:
No...
@siata94 is correct, there is nothing cool about your mountain bike on the roof of your car:
  • As you go through drive thru’s
  • As you drive in to your garage
  • As you try to go through a car wash (without the bike, naturally sheesh!)

It's almost true, even though my bike is the entry level model, its value is not much less than the car it's sitting on. At least there's more dirt on the bike than on the car.

Whatever coolness factor evaporated when a 10mm (bolt head, not bolt width itself) snapped while I was backing the car from driveway to street. I heard a high-pitch ping that didn't seem like one of the many noises that my Ultimate Driving Machine rattle bucket makes.

Turns out the BMW factory bike attachment (which I believe is manufactured by Thule) rear wheel holder is held on by 2 of these tiny bolts, each is screwed into a very soft alum plate about 4mm thick. Holy thin threads!!! The front wheel holder is held on with 1 bolt. I'm now paranoid everytime the bike is on the car.

And yes, I've backed into the garage once.
