Help the bottle cage neophyte

I see you guys have plenty to say about bottle cages, so I'm in the right place...

Never been a MTB bottle guy, but want a side-entry cage for the Smash. US-made? No material preference. Holding power seems important. Thanks for, once again, propping your fave :)

What about the one GG sells?

Not US made, and super spendy, but it has two sets of mounting holes (so I could actually fit a bottle) and hasn't ejected a bottle yet...

Well, Tracy at Arundel makes the grade... :geek: (see vid tab)

GG sells one?:oops: That thing better be US made!

TFPU, Brett.

TIA for advising me of your ultimate side-loading cage... :)

This is a Lezyne side load you can have for the price of shipping. I bought the wrong one (the bottle would inadvertently flip the shock lever when I used it). I'm sure I used it at least 1-2 rides and I don't know where it's made (nor do I care :D) but it's yours if you want it. Firestick remote not included.

I’ve used one of these from the evil S company for over three years. Never had a bottle slip out and I ride my Enduro everywhere.
Well, there was a crash at Tahoe last year where the bottle slipped out but I think my leg helped it escape :speechless:
I had the same one on my Stumpy for several years and it is now on my Niner. I can confirm it will hold a bottle and apparently will last forever.

Camelbak makes some good ones with shoulder straps and all kinds of pockets to store stuff in. ;)

In all seriousness I only have a side load big S cage that came with my HT and I have used it on my FS for bigger rides where I use a pack and bottle and never had any issues with it coming out. Also used it for OTH races and same, no bottles lost.

I second the Arundel cages. They are about as low profile as you can get if you need the clearance. I've never had a bottle drop out either. I use their normal cage for the under the down tube mount on the Ripley without a bottle ever dropping as well. Can't say the same for the Lezyne cages that I have used.

If adjustability is not an issue, I suggest a King titanium bottle cage. A little pricey, no clue where it's made, but it's tough as nails and the design works as a side entry/exit access type. These are what I have always used. In fact, I've had the same cages on probably 3 or 4 different bikes now.

But most of all, it's TITANIUM!!! (mega-cool-factor)

@mike, wouldn't you want the bottle to go in on the left side (which is what @UPSed photo looks like)? I'm right-handed and use a Lezyne that opens to the right, with my non-dominant hand on the bars. For me I guess that means more dexterity and less chance of dropping a bottle. As @Danmtchl says, you can get a set (1 left, 1 right) for under $20 and try them both out, which is what I did.

I run the 2nd one under the downtube with a Lezyne Flow Caddy (a little canister that holds a tube, CO2 cartridges and a few allen wrenches), but wrap a velcro strap around it as extra security. No problems so far, including on @mtnbikej's eyeball-socket rattling trails. ;)

No, I use my right hand off the bar to grab stuff. My left hand always on the bar.

I blame my parents for making me a suppressed southpaw. I was more comfortable learning to write lefty, but my parents and teacher thought it was a bad idea. Either side of the brain controls the opposite side of the body, ya know. So chronically right brain-dominant people are often left handed and left footed. I was heavily left footed until I had a grave injury on that leg, then it switched. Way more than you need to know...:cool:
