I get that... and trust me, I know how to both pull my own weight, and get myself over my head when it comes to action sports. The reason I mention it, is because it changes the character of the event. Instead of finishing the ride and thinking about logistics and adding 1 - 1.5 hours of logistics up the mountain, and then another 60 minutes home... you're finishing it with everyone in the same place, relaxed, nothing in their mind and ready to have a beer. It's a nice safety net for people to get over their head on the ride, and not have to manage what comes after.
Trust me, I have no problem with the buck up, manage your own capacity and abilities, you're in or you're out mentality. Unless my back injury blows up, I'm rarely if ever the person that ends up on the wrong end of it. But I am always, the person that wants to chill, have a beer and do some bench racing (riding) after an awesome all day epic. Going our separate ways and slogging up the hill to get cars is something I will do happily, but I will also happily pay 20 bucks to have some one drive us up there in a van... so we all finish and the fun continues as we make questionable food decisions.
my .02. I'm going to be in either way. I got a new truck 2015 f150 crew cab so I can haul mucho bikes and people to the top.
