Garage Bike Storage

My hat is off to you as well . In our previous house I had the snowboard rack on the wall in my office. MY office. You'd think I was storing dead animals in the from the aversion it got.
Haha! Sorry buddy!:p
I like a clean, uncluttered house, so as long as there’s a place for everything it’s all good! We have three garages/ workshops and they’re full of my hubbies machinery and toys, so it’s only fair that I have my space right?!;):D

6 Never Summers and a Guerilla Gravity (soon to be 2 GG). Single handedly trying to support Colorado's economy, I see.

Nice Q3 as well (or is it a Q5 or, dare I ask, SQ5)?

Haha, there's definitely a theme, but a coincidental one. Technically, 4 NS, and 2 Sims (though the newer ones pressed by NS) and two of the NS are my wife's.

And thanks. Yeah, guilty, it's a heavily modified SQ5. After a 20 year run of pretty pedestrian cars, it was my first "nice" car, and first fun car I've had since I was in my early twenties.

The man has exquisite, high performance taste!

I have a slightly oversized 2 car garage. I park two vehicles in it, plus 4 bikes hanging in the wall. I can put one in front of my truck if needed. I used to keep my bikes in the house, but that now is my 14 year old sons room. Sorry about the mess

Any truth to the rumors that suspension bike shouldn't be hang upside down (or vertical)?
My old bike had problems if you turned it upside down even for a few minutes. Not the suspension but the brakes. Handle would go right to the bars. If I was lucky I could pump the handle several times and get pressure pack. They might have just needed a good bleed but the real problem was that they were Avid Elixer 1s

Argh, no. ;-) Though it's really a perfect match. It's just my favorite color, particularly on mechanical stuff (I have fly fishing reels the same color). I actually vowed never to transport the bike on the car for that reason (a silver truck performs the honor), but I did have to do it a few weeks back because my wife needed the truck for her bike. I was somewhat mortified.

Love that blue! I have a blue Tacoma Truck and 2 blue bikes : )

Yup, almost impossible to completely bleed. Felt great when they worked tho.

Hang on the walls if you can. A system like the Gladiator or Rubbermaid FastTrack offer various hooks for vertical or horizontal hanging, plus other accessories like baskets to throw helmet, gloves and pack in. Or there's the various horizontal and vertical hooks that attach straight to the wall. There are also hoists that hold the bike horizontally and raise them to the ceiling.

My current solution is one of these https://www.feedbacksports.com/product/velo-cache-black/ configured to hold four bikes. If you could situate it in the middle of the garage toward the front so it's clear of the car doors, that might work if the garage isn't too narrow.

When shopping for our current house, one of my requirements was a "mud room" off the garage that would become bike storage and workshop, or extra garage space. We found one with extra garage space.

. Sorry about the mess
Mess????? that looks pretty well kept compared to what my boys do to my garage on what seems like a daily basis. Nerf guns and darts everywhere, scooters and bikes everywhere, camouflaged cardboard cutouts all over the place for their bunkers. It's like a war zone everyday I go into the garage. Some day I will be able to park at least one car in the garage.

At one point I had 5 bikes hanging. I alternated between front wheel/rear wheel. The road bikes could also be closer together.

Hanging by the front wheel was harder and I mostly put the bikes that we did t ride that often. Since we scaled down the fleet, now I only hang 3.....plus some of my hanging space got take up by my work bench.

Thanks, but it is a mess to me.

I’m surprised no one suggested a bike hoist. It keeps the bike upright and is easy to get to and put away. Works better with 9 and 10 foot ceilings. A friend of mine has a couple at his shop and works beautifully!

I do. I have this issue. I have a 4 car garage.

I actually have a hoist, still in the box. Problem is that the garage is small and ceiling is quite low. The rails of the door or shelving on the sides are in the way so not many options for hanging bikes. Thinking a couple might fit hanging on hooks to the right of the window then the others will probably go in a floor rack.

There's also the Rubbermaid sheds/lean to's. There's tons of different brands and options. Maybe find a spot next to the house, under and eave or whatever. If you look around, there's quite a few shapes and sizes. That could easily help move some of the storage stuff out of the garage. Just seal and put in totes if need be. That being said, move everything that's light into totes and label and store as high as possible. Also, not the cheapest thing, but a tankless water heater would free up some floor space. They can also be mounted outside with the right setup and that would free up wall space as well.

My garage is a bit of a mess right now because I've been doing a ground up rebuild on my "E" bike. I use steady racks to store my bikes. They are pretty expensive, especially when you have this many of them. You could easily build a DIY'ish version out of 2x4 and door hinges if you were so inclined. I was planning on doing that, but decided that my time was best spent doing other home improvement tasks and spending the money on these.

Pros:
-They hinge both ways
-They hold the bike upright, so the fork bushings and foam rings stay nice and wet. The performance of my forks is improved and the parts look better when doing lower leg services
-They fold up against the wall out of the way.
-Bikes can be hung as close as 14" and not interfere if you lay them out correctly.
