I didn't see this posted anywhere (I looked) but we received word that at least down here for the Cleveland National Forest, the closure has been extended through October 8th. So much for our ride in Noble Canyon this weekend. At least I know Moab and Fruita/Grand Junction are right around the corner. :)

In other words, forest is closed, head to the desert.

I think it's naive to think they are trying to save us from ourselves....

It's all related to that helicopter ride discussion, or the joke I tell my students, don't get hurt, I don't want to fill out the paperwork.

I would suggest they just don't want to spend time money and resources saving people's asses.

Everyone's so quick to complain about taxes in california.... Yet then complain when they try a temporary measure limit spending during a high risk period?

I should be the one who gets to choose what is and is not.

Nice, one of my favorite spots. I'm entertaining the idea of going up and trying the stuff around Cedar City for a change....and then getting over to Thunder Mountain again. It's a beautiful ride if you haven't been and want a Gooseberry diversion.

^^^ Have you ridden anything at Brian Head? I think their bike park is closed but some of the trails nearby are fantastic.... Dark Hollow, Blowhard, Bunker Creek, Sydney Peaks. The local shuttle co may be able to help if you don't have 2 vehicles. http://shuttlebrianhead.com/

Virgin River rim trail and Navajo lake trail are other good rides nearby. I haven't ridden the new stuff by Cedar City but have heard good things. The C Trail is the only trail in that area I've done, it's pretty "meh" just a featureless smooth descent that is steep enough you have to drag brakes hard all the way down. The Three Peaks trails near town are ok.

Whats wrong @evdog, not enough HAB for you in Cedar City? :p I've ridden all those trails (and the bike park) other than Sydney Peaks. Dark Hollow was my favorite but not sure if's open again after the fire. Navajo Lake loop is fun as well. Pretty mellow and great scenery too. Great BBQ food truck in Duck Creek Village if it's still around.
