You've kind of got it backward, scan. Wider bars increase the wrist angle inward, and that's exacerbated by lack of backsweep. All bad for long-term comfort.Wider bars help decrease that wrist bending outward, makes sense thegreater comfort
Hang your elbows at your sides and hold your hands a couple of feet apart as though grabbing a bar. Your natural wrist angle itself has backsweep. A lot of it. Yes, you can point your elbows outward to reduce that backsweep, and grip a wider fake bar with less inward wrist angle. Like you do in attack position. But there is zero reason to be in that position consistently for days. I like 790 mm bars moto style bars for general MTB, including long day rides. But for maximum comfort during multiple days in a row, nothing beats a bar designed for that. I'm not theorizing – I got worked on 60 days of bikepacking with a normal wide bar. Next time on the route was very different with the Salsa Bend.
