The post is still there...

As much as I loathe ebikes I'm glad they're available to my buddies Otto who is 74 with a pacemaker and Garo who is 84 and just had back surgery. It pisses me off that so many lazy able-bodied people are jumping on them and riding them wherever they want.

Here's a post on STR about Garo. BTW his road bike is still "naturally aspirated".

Right after it was talked about here, someone commented on the ride that they would help him read the signs at the entrance if he was unable to read them himself. :p

There was also a ride in the Oaks last night...

I had to :whistling:. The blatant disregard for rules just bothers me. It’s an attitude similar to the a-holes who wait until the last minute to merge while others are patiently waiting in a long line, entitled jerks.

Someone mentioned self awareness, think it was @BonsaiNut, and I totally agree with him. When I am out with my kids in public I try to be aware of our impact on others. If they are loud we take them outside. If we have to stop our Caddilac of a stroller I make sure we are out of the way. If I am lost or missed a turn while driving I keep going and do a u-turn rather than just stop and make everyone else deal with my dumb move.

I’d be embarrassed to receive comments on my Strava for breaking blatant rules. Instead that asshat replied to me but then made his ride private or deleted it. He probably wants his student loans forgiven as well with that mentality.

Yeah, I saw his response to your comment. Classy.

Wherever I ride lately, I basically see at least one, usually more...legal or not. I think this is going to get much harder to enforce as the bikes/tech get better and less obvious. Even now, I doubt the 'average' person can tell the difference. Personally, I think they are just going to get more mainstream and will be allowed at some point or it will just stop being enforced. The new Specialized Turbo Kenevo is relatively sleek looking...

I'm on the fence. I get both sides. Personally, I don't really care what other people do, for the most part. It doesn't make me enjoy my ride any less and d-bags take any form, regardless of a regular bike, e-bike, hiker, horseback, whatever. I'd much prefer we can just all get along and be polite to each other.

On the other hand, I get that sometimes there are rules that you may not agree with and it is what it is. I do think it's a little disingenuous for some of these bike shops pushing them so hard, knowing most places have regs against them and not informing customers they know have no idea...

That’s because Otto is not the problem and the eBike is his solution. I can’t twll you if I would ride an eBike if I was in that situation or when I’m old. But Otto is not the eProblem.

I can always tell. If someone passes me uphill on a 12% grade at 15 mph, then...

Not sure if you've been to Santa's but it's like a damn freeway haha. This is where I'm sort of torn about it. I don't really mind, but man, so many of those guys are just dicks about it. I'm sorry you had to slow down 1-2mph and wait 5 seconds to find a place to pass because I can't pedal uphill at 25mph.

Riding past signs telling you not to do so is ignorant and disrespectful to the other users that might be affected. That’s the bottom line for me.

Common sense seems to be a rarity these days.

I guess what I don’t understand, is how is it this legislation is moving so much faster than when human powered bikes struggled so, and was in such opposition from our favorite groups like the Sierra Club. Where are THEY in all of this???

No doubt. No excuses to blatantly ignore the rules and cry about it when you get caught. Even more so if that post is accurate saying the dude got a verbal and said ok and then got caught again haha. At that point, you're just asking for it. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that those are the current rules and it is what it is, no matter which side you're on.

If you really think about it, at the time, that was completely new territory. Hikers didn't really have any competition until 'mountain biking' started to become a thing. I think at this point, most people probably don't really know or care about the difference and they wouldn't really be opposed to them unless they had some direct interaction with an e-bike specifically that caused them to be pissed off. Regardless of people's views on bikes, bikes are a pretty normal/common thing on trails now. Even if you hate them, most people concede they are allowed most places. That's my guess.
