Bike Rack suggestions

You mean when you mortgaged the Ranch and sold a kidney and lung.
$300 bucks for a great Single Bike Tray Rack... Shutty? :sneaky:

The 1up is really a nice setup but I couldn't swallow the roughly $720 price tag for the 3 bike setup I wanted.

I picked up a Rockymounts Monorail a few months back and am very satisfied. I bought the 2 bike version and an add on for a 3rd bike for about $370 total. It has a threaded hitch pin with a lock as well as a built on cable lock for the bikes. With the threaded hitch pin drawn up tight this rack is rock solid. Weight for the 2 bike rack is 39lbs. Folds up & down easy. Does everything I need so far.

I've had the Yakima Holdup 2-bike hitch rack for about a year and 9 months. It pretty much stays on the car. Fits any of my bikes easily. Got it on sale for about $365. I have had no complaints but one nit: Have to tighten up the holdown arm every now and then. Not hard to do after the first time.

There is a 2-bike add-on available but I don't think I'd ever need it.

Whatever you do, don’t use a trunk rack that you bought off of Craigslist for $20 to haul 2 beach cruisers to Yosemite from OC on the back of a Corolla. After 847 stops to tighten straps and check on things I was over it. The massive dent in my trunk sucked too. Although I must admit it was worth having bikes in the valley to ride around on after ingesting psilocybin riddled fungus.

Ding Ding Ding Ding! Winner! I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that?
You just won another year free membership subscription to imtbtrails! :whistling: o_OCongratulations!
Oh goody. I won. I must have been caller #6.
"CBone. What is your favourite mtb forum?"
"Why, it is imtbtrails of course!"
"CBone - you WIN!"
(I even used the Canadian spelling of favorite so @Mikie would understand)

By the way, I have a Kuat Transfer. Holds 2 bikes. I paid $289. Works well, even after I left it folded down and some lady tried to push my vehicle through the McDonald's drive through. It did more damage to her grille than it did to the rack so I guess it is fairly strong.

I’m not sure we’ve convinced the OP. Lol. But +100 on the 1up. By far the best rack I’ve had.

Actually, I am going to go with the 1up rack with an add on rack to transport another bike. So my next question is can anyone recommend a strong bike lock? I usually hit the gym in the morning after I ride and would prefer not have a nice rack and no bike.

No lock is good enough to prevent theft, some just take longer to break/grind through. I would never leave a bike on a rack in a parking lot for that long, especially if it’s early in the morning and dark. I will always try to keep my bike in sight when I’m stopping for food etc but won’t leave it if I have to go in somewhere for more than a couple/few mins.

I think @Cornholio is right. There ain’t nothing out there unstoppable when jackwads have backpacks with bolt cutters in them.

I use a cable and big padlock. Spaghetti through my wheels and frame and 1UpUSA.
If they are going to get it, I try to make them earn it.

Yep, I agree with @Cornholio . I never leave my bike on the rack for more than a few minutes without it being in sight even while locked up. My buddy lost his Ripley in his office parking garage with 2 cable locks on it. Luckily I have a 4Runner so I can just toss it in the back if I do need to run inside for more than a few minutes.

My coworker had his 3rd row seat stolen out of his Yukon in our parking garage.. in Fashion Island.

I think I’ll be putting my bike in the back of my 4Runner from now on when I bring it to work.

I built this with a piece of 1x6 and a few fork mounts that I picked up off of Amazon. Works great for the days where the bike needs to be in the truck for a while.
