Bike appearance vs quality ride....?

At some point, the “storm trooper” and “where’s your duct tape?” comments hurt my feelings, and I don’t wanna play anymore. Ima take my bike and go home!

Will a chicken nugget emoji cheer you up?

Disclosure: I bought my current bike on sight. I ASSUMED it was a good bike, but I didn't do any research. I liked it, wanted it, bought it. Though I did get a great deal too.

If I had to choose between a bright pink with rainbows Sworks Enduro or an all black Comp Enduro for the same price, I'll take the pink. I can't tell what the bike looks like when I'm riding it, and I don't care what people think of me.

Now if I'm paying full price I'd prefer to get a bike I like the look of.

My answer to Bike appearance vs quality ride....?
It depends.... on a lot of things, but utmost, the overall ride must be very good for my riding "style" (my preferences prob much different from many). All the other factors are fluff imo, but "looks" would sway the decision between two great riding bikes.
Then again, discount that opinion... my XC/all mountain do-it-all bike is what was categorized as a light duty DH bike from 2012 with 26" wheels, Al curvy tubes and silver anodized (why they didn't just make it raw?). I love it!, and haven't found anything to make me change (though I purposely avoid riding new bikes as much as possible)

I'd like the pink/rainbow one...

My current... which is still my first bike... I bought with out even seeing in person. I went into my shop, said "hey I want a bike", and it went from there.

When I am able to buy a new bike, aesthetics are somewhat important... but if it fit well, (most ride well these days), and had the right spec, then that's the major factor. I actually like the bright/loud color bikes. I also like the murdered out black ones... or white... or raw... As long as the shade is right and the colors on the bike don't clash. For instance an awesome bike is the Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy models... but i think the colors are ugly..... so I would be somewhat hesitant.. but would it barr me from making a purchase... probably not.

If budget wasn't an issue, I think the new pivot trail 429 could easily be considered my dream bike... looks killer, awesome paint, performance... spec...

in reality the GG trail pistol is probably closer to what I would buy... maybe not eye candy like the pivot, but not ugly, still I find there is a certain draw to the design..

like looking at a maserati then seeing a 68 camaro....

not to mention the company ethos, a bike designed by a bunch of punk rock/metalheads, with the purpose of getting the job done and having fun....

to summarize...
While aesthetics are important, even the less attractive options can become a beautiful package when everything else is taken into account..

Quality ride, to a point. Can't ride an ugly bike, tho. Just picked up a Giant Revolt gravel bike, and it's black. Not ugly, just black. I'm tired of black bikes (I now have five, and all but one are all or mostly black). But my options to get the spec I wanted were any color I want as long as it's black. This is one of the things that really annoys me about bike manufacturers - make a frame in several different colors, but only one color per spec, no getting this frame color with that spec. So now looking at some ways to add some color - bar tape, pedals, maybe even some vinyl to add some splashes of whatever color.

I love black on black stealth graphics, but love bright skittle colors as well. It's nice to have an option!
