Big Bear eagle cam

This past Wed. a USFS biologist climbed up to the Big Bear nest and put two leg bands on the eaglet, who has been named "Stormy" and was determined to be a male. The guy also removed the deceased chick's body. Here's a vid...

They said this nest is 120 feet off the ground, what!? That old dude that climbed that has my respect :) Also amazing is how big the eaglet is when you have a person as a comparison. That eaglet was smacking the guy with his wings quite a bit. Oh yeah, the nest if 6 feet across. Cool stuff..

Age is just a number! I agree, rad to see him up there just like it’s awesome to see my 85 year old grandpa still running a construction company 5 days a week starting at 5am. Granted he tells me that it gets him out of the house and away from my demanding grandmother.

Bummer the other one died but nature is nature.

My Dad turns 83 this weekend, still going strong and mostly he has more energy than me. Re the "old fella" comment on the biologist, he's probably got a few years on me and I would have no chance to climb that 120' tree. So a bit of sarcasm calling him an old dude. He was awesome. And he handled the bird well to try to keep it from freaking out. I read he's been doing this for awhile, I think 1500 eagles and bunch of other raptors he's done leg tags on (?)

The nest is in the tall pine on right, you can almost see the biologist reach the nest, but he blend in pretty well. Mom (named Jackie) and Dad perched in the tree on the left, keeping an eye on the intruder.

SB Sun article with good explanation of things...

Oh, I wasn’t taking your comment negatively.. sorry if I came off that way.

just saw a Twitter feed that they see him perched about 20 feet below the nest on another branch.
