bells

An awareness bell is a bell that jingles all the time as the bike hits bumps. It communicates "bike in the area." The better ones have a way to silence the bell via magnet or damper.

As opposed to a lever-actuated bell which only rings when the pilot makes it ring. It communicates "MOVE OVER."

Evidently there is now a brand of awareness bell called Awareness Bell. Who knew?

There was a review (of the Awareness Bell) on the homepage of IMTBRAILS under the Product Reviews tab but it seems the administrator has been lagging and the page is down. That's where I found the link to purchase the "Awareness Bell". Love the bell but the tone was a little to high and long winded so I placed ducktape inside to tone it down. Love the engraving option.

I'm running a little double bell setup currently. If the bells are ringin, and the tires are singin, I think the hikers deserve to hear me a commin. "Most of them". The brass bell gets a little foam ball jammed in it to shut it up. I pull the ball out & stick it in a helmet vent. The big one was purchased from a triathlon site advertised as a bike cowbell. We got a good laugh when it showed up, it's HUGE and LOUD. And not used.
The little brass one says Guido's, ring for milk, something like that. I have two more that I will not ever need. If you want one I.M. an address & I'll get it to ya. They ring good.

That world of imtbtrails product reviews has sadly gone away.
I have to admit though, it has drawn a lot of people to the forum.
I still need to fix a lot on the home page.

This is the one I have... velcro attachment to the handlebars, a mesh bag with magnet at the bottom to keep it from ringing when you don't want to...

$3.52 at Amazon - with free one-day shipping.

Use your IMTBTRAILS link, and I think @Mikie makes $25.00.
Those are good for bikepacking because you can easily use it at night as a warning system for bears trying to get at your food. Kind of a quiet design for rolling through griz country – that's when I start yelling.

Been running these for years. Pull up the center button and the bell rings freely. Push it down and use the thumby for on-demand. Brass bell has a nice ring.

After months of inaction, we have finally deployed these bells which I was styled out with by one groovy rider. THANKS

I'm a new bell user. The experience has been super positive. It seems like, in current conditions, bells have a new relevance.

The real brass bell has a great ring to it. Not annoying at all, but I do prefer silence if I can get away with it.
Glad you're enjoying them!

...Bells can be heard much more clearly than bikes without bells (bikes are relatively quiet nowadays). The wearer of headphones will not hear the bell, the bike, or the yelling if they have headphones on. There's nothing you can do about stupidity. Even though I hate riding with a bell because I feel like cattle ringing ding dinging down the trail, I do it because it avoids startling uptight hikers...e
This ^^^^

Every time I use my bell on a descent, I am glad I did - but it sure is nice to ride without the noise! Especially since today's bikes are so quiet. But encountering unexpected hikers who are off to the side and smiling because they heard me coming is waaaaay better for both of us than encountering startled hikers who surprise us both!

BTW - not sure what all that hidden gibberish about gofundme is on your post - so not sure if you're legit or some kind of scammer. I hope it's the former, but I am skeptical. I've never heard of a Yhumma.

Are you kidding me?
Could post a pic(s) of noted bell? :Roflmao:laugh:
Hey funny I never go back to posts. Sorry Mr Canada, um Mr Moonshine. It is just a small Swiss Cowbell. Like the white one in the post. Mine are white with a cool Valley Oak in black. I like um, have one on the desk at work, two in my bike clothes rack. But as I said they only work on the way up. You really cannot hear bells on downhillers as the high freq is not strong and the doppler shift weakens the sound. After they pass I can hear them down 2 switchbacks. But I stay off popular trails until sunset so it is not so crowded.
Happy Are Kansas trails.
