You know @Sidewalk has you in his sights...Mashed and spun the hell out of this run. Soon to fall down the leader board, but I sit on the thrown with pride for the moment. This is Snow Valleys top to bottom run.

I will jump up several gears on climbs and totally mash to give my butt a rest from my saddle. Thanks for the responses so far. Reading through them I realize I do spin most of the time however if I can't shift down in time I will mash my way up until I can shift to a lower gear safely. I also tend to stand up and pedal on occasion.

Now, that's what I call mashing.I will jump up several gears on climbs and totally mash to give my butt a rest from my saddle.
Stop bragging. It's interesting that a couple people have mentioned pushing a harder gear until the heart rate gets too high.
That was the case when I started with the single speed. I walked a lot... Blowing up the HR frequently. Eventually the heart got stronger and my normal HR lowered. The body adjusted...
Now, I have a much easier time controlling the heart rate and breathing while mashing a climb as opposed to spinning. On the SS, you learn to focus on breathing and heart rate more than on a cheater bike. It becomes second nature.
Mountain bikes with gears are NOT a cheater bike. Let’s clear the air on that right now, pal. It's interesting that a couple people have mentioned pushing a harder gear until the heart rate gets too high.

I’ve been watching the Tour de France and this commercial keeps popping up:
It’s funny! And I laughed out loud. However, when I went to YouTube to capture the video, some of of the dumbass comments like, “Now I can give those spandex roadies a run for their money!” just blows me away. Like eDoping is an equalizer.
It’s NOT YOU, only faster.
Now THAT......... is a cheater bike!
Just stick to your bunny trails and miles and miles...and miles...of fire roads and flame away while counting the grams of your XC tires.Hmmm... The first Tour de France riders were on single speeds and the stages were 250 miles each. Real men! They smoked and drank whiskey!
Now the stages are half that and they have gears!
Seems like gears have made them lazy. And they don't drink whiskey and beer anymore. Pansies.
I'm going to don my fireproof suit now. Flame away!

Again, any fatso can be conditioned to pedal, but if by 40 you don’t have the sack to get behind the saddle, your 26 pound hardtail is perfect for you.
Ha! Don't you need to make a diaper run? I'll be on Upper Holy Jim while you're waiting to get in the express line at Ralphs!
Don't you need to make a diaper run?
Steve started this mess, and now @doublewide now wants to have a diaper run...On the SS, you learn to focus on breathing and heart rate more than on a cheater bike.

...I um, pretty sure there is something wrong with Mark.
Well, technically, if you peed a little, the absorbent material would swell up, creating a padded/cushioned feeling for added comfort.
