But I watched it on YouTube. If you have to suffer a catastrophic handlebar snap, the wood track is the best possible place to do it. Do it on the road or on a mt bike descent and you could die. So listen up, manufacturers. Please over-build your products!

...Of course, they could do some creek boating down waterfalls and such. Sort of Rampage of whitewater kayaking....

Funny I should mention this. I was watching the flat water kayak events (like rowing, but even more boring) and they mentioned they are not doing one of the flat water events next Olympics, but are adding extreme slalom!

(Yes I quoted myself. I'm just that profound. :whistling:)

Track Cycling is a bit different than traditional road racing. The bikes are generally build more sturdy. (Have you seen track cyclists? They look more like powerlifters than cyclists).

the loads they put on the bikes is a lot more than road bikes. Watch them out of the start gate…the pulling on the bars to get those humongous gears going….the power is obscene. Have you noticed that they all clip in….then run toe straps as well.

with all that said, on the track it’s more about aerodynamics than weight.

Things I've learned watching Olympics this time that I never noticed before:
  • BMX for adults on 20" wheels is ridiculous and downright stupid looking.
  • Dressage is horse dancing. It has to be the most Bougie "sport" of them all. Yes it's amazing that you can train your horse to dance, but what the hell does that have to do with an Olympic sport? Give the medal to the horse - in a specific horse dancing competition.
  • Table tennis is as cool as I remember it. The serves look a little silly, but after that, it's a fast-action slam fest!
  • Whitewater sports are legit!!!! Kayak and C1 is every bit as cool and athletic as I remember them being. The course is no joke. Having done about a dozen kayak slalom runs in my life, I think I would still be stuck in one of the holes if I ran that course.
  • I am a jinx for our Water Polo teams. They were doing fine until I tuned in.
  • The golf course is too easy
  • The surfing coverage was abysmal, but the results were pretty cool. Very strange and challenging conditions. Messy surf, but powerful, and strong currents. Definitely the opposite of a wave pool.
With as big as the equine world is in the USA, I’m shocked that you never dated a horse gal. I dated one who was a dressage competitor. The idea in dressage is to have a well trained/obedient horse that responds to the most subtle signals from the rider. In other words, the signals by the rider should not be detectable. Precision at its finest.

Give the horse a medal!

My favorite part of Olympic cycling was when NBC announcer Steve Schlanger described the e-bike pacing the Keirin final as a “motorbike.”

props to Steve and NBC for embracing what we all know to be true.

They never even called it by it's real name, a derny.
And to be honest, that one was disappointing.
Most dernys are gas powered, electric would of course be preferred by racers. But what this was missing was a fender with a roller. So, racers can get real close.

I'm ecstatic for US Womens Water Polo - but then, that's partly because I have some personal connections to the team. 7 of the team members including the head coach are OC products. Two came from Laguna Beach High School. Super down-to-earth girls who were awesome to have on campus. In contrast, most of the boys water polo team were arrogant frat-boy jerks. The boys competed in Division 4. The girls were 6 time CIF Division 1 champions, oh and Rio gold medalists.

Greece took its first men’s water polo medal, a silver, losing to defending champs from Serbia by 3. The sport will explode in Greece because of this. Hellas!
