+100 degree club

Anyone who's worked in the desert heat knows how to deal with it. I worked construction in Phoenix for a few years. A news crew showed up on our site one really hot day, doing a bit about surviving the heat – just in time to catch me sticking my head in the water barrel.

Riding a bike at the time and place of my choosing in the heat isn't so bad. Plus, better judgement tells me to go for it because I could be dead next month.

I ride in 100 degree Temps all the time. It aint no big deal really. If you are not used to it then you just got to "get" used to it.
You pace yourself more, drink more fluids. Try to find ride areas that have more of a breeze. It's the dead airspace rides that kill me.
I wear the UV Arm thingy's that turn my sweat into evaporative cooling.

Like @mike...
I would rather ride, not knowing what next week brings. Lately I've been more concerned with my crazy commute on the 138 now that there is more Solar Farm Growth activity out that way.
Absolute idiots during both directions of my daily commute turning it into high speed video game of chance. My goal is to avoid and survive. I'm actually contacting the CHP office to discuss.
If I meet a highway death, you heard it here first, here at imtbtrails...

"Used to it." That's the key.

During the hot months, we used to see new guys come on the job who had been off work awhile. You could just watch the progress...slowing down, taking lots of water breaks, even more water breaks, eventually turning pale and sitting under the scaffolding hoping for relief that never came. Once they hurled water, they were done. Try again tomorrow.

Racing Over the Hump tonight. Should only be mid 80's.
Evening road rides Wednesday and Friday to stay out of the heat (and 'cuz I have to work during the day.)
It should cool off a bit by Sunday - me and some friends are gonna do a road ride Irvine to Oceanside Train stations - the coast should keep us cooler.

PS Anyone know a good food and beer place in O'side near the pier or train station for our post ride lunch?

PSS My first cyclocross race was 105º F at Irvine Lake. Since then, I've had about half a dozen or so pushing 100. Rode some in PHX in August a few years back. Some MTB and road - up to 112ºF. It actually didn't feel all that bad when moving - but once you stopped, the sweat flood was huge.

That Boy Good

8 mile lunch ride to Sugarloaf Mountain, Riverside with Doug the Planner!700' elevation felt like 7,000'
Doug went OTB and then to urgent care. My boss is irritated with me for being a "bad influence." "No more rides during work!" She says.

Thumb for scale...

8 staples. Doug qualifies for the 100 degree club in my book...

First MTB ride in a month, but the commuter rides to Target and Stater Bros help with the baseline.

Marshall Canyon is loooooose!

This doesn't compare to the Space Mountain to Sycamore Canyon ride above (unless I were to turn around and ride my ride a second time ) but still I had a blast!

I got to spend some time by myself (since few want to join this club) to recollect on all the bullets I have dodged in my life. All the best to youz.
