I Rode My Bike Today...

Ironic thing is this used to be the beginning of my rides in the hills from my old home. Low life dirt bags pissed off the neighbors enough to get it closed. Right now it is the turn around point on my street rides through the hills.

Is that across from Orange Grove Middle School? I was always wondered about trail descriptions for 7th street loop that said to start from there instead of climbing Awhinga then dropping in.

Did you read the warning on the trail closure I posted above!?!?
I read it. I also read that Squatch wasn’t aware of the trail network in that area. I was just offering to show you around [the closure] via the many trails Muk Muk and his crew built in those foothills. They’re also (slowly) reestablishing the route up Cucamonga TT. Barrett Stoddard spits you out in that area, so I know my way around it. Lots of options have been built up there the past 3 years west of Sapphire. Bummer about Ridges , though. That’s a good one I would have liked to take Faustie on . Although it only bisects the closure rather than traverse it. There are cameras recording trespassers, and the Sheriff has issued tickets and is compiling a list of offenders, so the threat is real. Lots of mountain bikers are upset about it, but the e-bikers don’t seem otherwise affected.

I rode the New Millennium Loop Trail yesterday in Calabasas. Quite a bit of single track on hero dirt. I was looking for an XC style ride and I got it. Thankfully I had long pants and a good riding jacket to deal with cold windy conditions but it was only windy on the tops and a couple of hillsides. I'd definitely ride this loop again. For all the ( long-punchy ) climbing I did there was plenty of downhill reward. No rocky/ chuncky trails to deal with just short flowy single track with a few sets of switchbacks to climb or descend. 14 mi/ 2,500 climbing. I rode the loop in a Counter Clockwise direction.

one-off my favorite rides. How was the trail past the water tank? Last time I rode out there the section below the switchbacks was almost impassable, we did some hike a bike holding bikes over head as the brush was to thick to push bike through.

Nice, NM is a really good fitness type loop, with some surprisingly serene sections. Judging from the mileage I'm guessing you started and ended at Bark Park, and skipped the Las Virgenes Downhill section that spits out at Mulholland and Las Virgenes. That section is really the star of the show, if you want to spice things up a bit. Not techy, but tight, fast, and flowy with a lot of fun jumps.

The only area that was torn up was just past the roadway crossing in view of the golf course on the side of the mountain ascending switchbacks. Distant housing tracks in pic taken from torn up switchbacks location. Everything below the water tank was ridable. A couple of water crossings I lifted my bike and leaped over on foot to keep the muck of the drivetrain.

Yes. Bark Park start. I did see that downhill ( Las Virgenes Downhill ) that splits off on Trailforks and knew it might be fun but I didn't have it on my radar for this ride. First time for me in this area. That downhill sounds like just the trail for me!

It was kind of funny to drop out of a trail to this entrance to Oak something. Guards stopping 6-8 cars backed up to get in ( not pictured ) off to my right only for me to cut through the traffic through a narrow slot in the hedge across the road and just drop out of sight. ( New Mellenium Trail Loop ) BTW I did not see one other rider on my ride but only a few hikers near these steps leading down the mountain side.

That's The Oaks. The Mega Mansions that you saw after that climb that started in that pic are The Estates of the Oaks. Gated community within a gated community. Think Kardashians, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Dr. Phil, etc.

Back on the bike today for a lunchtime loop. Unfortunately yesterday didn't pan out cos of work. Fortunately it didn't pan out cos I don't think my shoulder would have been up to it anyway. Seems it took more of a knock than I thought in Wednesdays unexpected exit stage right. I'm waiting for the bruising to come out but at the moment its definitely on the shoulder and back running down onto the ribs making even lifting my arm an old man exercise in wincing.
Anyway, enough of the woe is me sad sack bullsh!t, it was time to harden up and go for a ride.
Opened the garage door and didn't realize just how cold it was... 10 degrees celsius, seems my evolution into California lizard person is complete. No wonder my brother in law was looking at me like I was a big girls blouse when he was here over Christmas.
I was warm enough by the time I'd climbed up Modjeska Grade. Turned onto STT where I was greeted by a bunch of blokes filming some promo for a gravel bike. It was shiny and I have no idea what brand cos bikes don't like telling us who made them anymore. The bunch of blokes had thoughtfully blocked the property owners gate across from STT with their vehicles. Way to make us all look good guys
One hiker and a chick riding up just past them and that was the only souls I would see until I got to the flag. 4 older fullas hanging out at the flag, we exchanged pleasantries before they asked if I'd like to go in front as they would most likely be slower than me. Took it easy because of the aches and pains, certainly I didn't want to add more to the list!
Gave the shoulder a bit of a workout on the climb back up Ridgeline just to see how it feels tomorrow. I'm hoping it stays good enough to do something a bit more adventurous this weekend :sneaky:

Really enjoying being able to get back out on a regular basis. I'm sure this good run will come crashing to a halt soon enough. But for now I ride!

Did a beautiful and relatively easy 18.5 mile, 2500 loop around the Newport/OC coast after work the other day. Other than Lizards, not the best trails, but amazing views and weather! There's plenty bad about CA, but views and weather aren't among them!

Ride with @herzalot ? Looks like the color of his bike in the last picture.

You're going to have to show me around. I haven't been up in that area for a little while, looks like a lot of changes. I originally thought you were going to show Sasquatch the closed area, I know you like to live up to your name dangerdirty, lol

Did a little recon Wednesday on the Webb Cyn drops in case anyone is interested. Testing my mullet setup on the Mojo (plush and smooth down, a little waggy on steeper climbs). Up Marshall and over to Johnson to drop into Web at the tower. Trail is rideable but tons of deep ruts down the middle, this time more sections I had to suck up and walk it. More careful going solo, too. Ground was OK, not too loose, nice berms, and brush is pretty much cleared, trail's been ridden I can tell. Anyway will revisit later, and also check out Itchy Scratchy from the top of Burbank (Claremont loop).

the Pyramid SB' are when I turn around and head towards LV & Mulluland. Bieber used to live at the top of the SB"S
That house was so beautiful. Probably my second favorite that I've ever seen for sale around Calabasas. I think owned by Eddie Murphy's ex originally. Amazing Santa Barbara style with lots of Spanish tile. Way too classy and beautiful for him. One of the Kardashians bought it after him, remodeled it, and took all the soul out of it.

I finally made it out to Gypsum Canyon open access day! Three rainouts and one bailout because of wind later. :Roflmao

I was expecting "a little better than Saddleback" type place, but I have to say it is much better than Saddleback. Still pretty small and I ran into the same groups of hikers numerous times, but there were a couple of downhills I really enjoyed. Trail #2 was pretty fun going down, and Trail #5 is super fun going down, whether doing it complete or cutting it off and then flowing straight into Trail #4.

The weather was great, and there were not too many hikers out when I got there. I was happy when the ranger asked me if my bike was an eBike at the gate, as in, not f@cking allowed. Good, at least they enforce the rules somewhere.

Looks like six KOM's and six 2nd & 3rd cuppies on the day ... I will have to work on those, how embarrassing. :whistling:

Good fun, and I am glad I finally made it out there. Will return.

Will you take me Strava shopping there one day? I haven't seen a haul like that without Dante before!

I woulda had a KOM on Luge today, but there was a guy and his two off-leash dogs right at the two jumps towards the bottom. I stopped for over a minute and still had a 3:55.

I may be exaggerating about the amount of time I stopped. :whistling:

Beautiful weather and beautiful day on the bike. Nothing really to report other than that. Met up with @Danimal for lunch at Baja Fish Tacos afterward. Always great to see Dan and catch up!

15.8 m, 2340' Bikes are fun - and can help an ailing mind and body.
