I Rode My Bike Today...

Another lap around the Coal Loop today. Legs felt strong after a much needed 3 day break. Took BS slow and cruised over to Sierra Peak. Took a little break and made my way down Coal. I'm really enjoying the remote feeling of Coal. Still haven't run into a single person on it this year but me. I'd really like to explore some of the off-shoot trails I see out there. But, I have a feeling they all end at a gate and you have to turn around. Just making sense of the directions they go, it seems like that would be the case. Coming back around Anaheim into Oaks was pretty uneventful. I think next time I'm going to add in some more Oak fun before I b-line straight for Jamboree. Once again, the slog back to BS on the road was lame but necessary. All in all, a good day on the bike. 38/5000.

Quick Sunset-Horsey loop... Up Lower Sam just like the other day. Unlike the other day, though, the climb was a killer. Things I cleaned on Monday looked insurmountable today. :Roflmao The hikers were all friendly, though, which makes the climb nice...

A 5 minute break at the top of Sunset... Although my moving time says that today was a PR, the clock was running the entire time my bike was sitting for the photo op... Oops. :Roflmao I knew it was a good run when I bottomed out the fork a couple of times. :D No hikers until the final staircase at the bottom, and he moved over to the side to watch me go down it. Obnoxious cowbell FTW!

After Sunset, I took the Horse Trail, but decided to ride the Altadena Crest Trail to the bottom. It's a steep little double track, but it adds another short climb...

Bikes are fun!

Weird how some days are like that, huh? Had a similar experience today on my ride. Just not feeling at one with my bike for the first half or so. Like you, I found my groove on 2nd half. Sedona rides are pretty unforgiving when you're not starting off well. There's not a lot of climb a bunch, and then descend a bunch. It's pretty much 100% technical up-and-down singletrack from beginning to end. Exhausting riding if you're not used to it, and the stats are always very unimpressive compared to SoCal.

I'm taking several virgins up to Hangover on Monday...talk about unimpressive stats. That ride doesn't yield much in the stats category.

Oh, it yields plenty in the pucker stats category. Just not so much as far as distance and elevation gain. I hope everyone makes it through with no mishaps! Climb to the saddle is pretty eroded and washed out with dumb new lower lines being created to avoid the technical moves. The 2nd traverse back to Munds is also in need of repair. At least that's how it was looking back in September. Might've seen some love since then to prepare it for the MTB Fest.

third tide. my butt hurt but that went away. screamed the final downhill and froze my face off, everything else was covered.
It is nice to be back in the saddle again
Happy sunset trails

Now enjoying a nice salad with a 2010 Santa Barbara County, Los Olivos Syrah....delicious end to a wonderful day.

Killer ride today with @Faust29! Tackled Suicide for the first time in a couple months. It wasn't fast, it wasn't pretty, and it wasn't clean, but with a few redos we both ultimately rode all of Suicide, which is in as rough and burly shape as I've seen it. Hats off to Steve for doing all that on a hard tail. Today was a big step in the right direction for me getting this trail back in my wheelhouse, and the first time I rolled the entrance without a couple false starts. It was puckerrific, but I think having someone on my back wheel gave me the motivation to not hesitate. Lots of fist bumps and holysh!ts along the way. Great stuff!

The rest of the ride was typical, awesome Cheese, and we more or less had the place to ourselves. I think we ultimately saw as many deer as human trail users. My run down Sheep Corral was an equally fast and sloppy affair. Lots of botched lines and edge of control moments, but super fun. Tacos and burritos to cap it all off. Stellar outing full of good vibes. 20.6/2937.

Who took the photo?

As mentioned above, I rode with @buggravy today. Cheeseboro with a Suicide Trail add-on... I was only down Suicide once before, and it was on the single speed. I was eager to take another crack at it. We ended up stopping here and there to look at lines, so it's not a top to bottom run. Insane fun though!

Cheeseboro has a nice mix of chunky features even without the inclusion of Suicide or Dead Cow. Adding Suicide, though, kicks the ride up a few notches on the technical scale. Glad I brought the hardtail... :D :Roflmao

Grub afterwards at Sharky's...

Nice job, guys – looks like a load of fun. TFPU.

big drop. 1100 feet of chunky goodness, or about 20 minutes of bliss ending with your hands screaming at you. Climb dead cow road, drop Suicide. take the single track cutoff at the bottom to end up at your truck. Or come in from Deer Hill which is a nice level trail until you stare at Suicide 100 feet above you, a real HAB, not long but steep, or ride it out to the Parks dept fence and take the dirt road up to King James Court where Dead Cow starts
Happy rocky trails.

It’s only an hour from my house! Who wants to go tomorrow and see the eclipse before dropping in!?

Jealous of those of you who are posting here… I’ve had to be off my bike for almost 3 weeks. Got vertigo out of the blue (what a sh!tty feeling) and still a little off… Ugh! Hope to feel well enough to head out for a mellow ride on some local fire roads on Sunday and pick up trash with my kids around some of the more popular spots like Waterworks.

Sorry to hear that. I had a bout with it six or seven years ago. After those first couple of days of craziness, I just wasn’t right for close to a month. It’s the worst I can remember feeling. Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, bummer. After my bike accident in 2011, I had regular bouts of vertigo for a solid year. Slowly, it faded away. Hope yours goes away soon.

Nicely done gents. Looked like ya had a good pace going on the chunk fest. I’m heading out there tomorrow to wring out my new DVO suspension.

Ridus Interruptus - that pretty well sums up this morning's Aliso experience for me. While Aliso is always very busy on a Saturday morning, I usually have good luck on the fun sections of trails. But today - there seemed to always be a small group.

Rock-It - LCF trail crew and a few slow adults. However, I was able to hit everything from the rock garden down without interruption. Coyote - kids on the fun little climb/drop north of rock-It, kids on the way back down the trail. Lots of slow. Up Mathis - I stopped to help a guy who forgot water. Meadows. Kids again. Damn kids - GET OFF MY TRAIL
(Actually I am happy to see kids out there - yet incredibly guilty for not having mine in tow). Several people both directions on Coyote again. From there, the ride was relatively un-peopled. Up Cholla, down Lynx. The latter was empty, save for two hikers (not allowed) who heard my awareness bell and were well out of the way. No I didn't issue any snarky comments about the trail being closed to hikers.

15 mi - 2255' 1/2 water bottle. Bikes are fun! :)

Bommer & Laguna loop today. I got a very late start @ around 1 PM due to some morning annoyances. Cattle Crest, East Fork, Ticketron and Lizard for the downs. The rest was mostly boring fire roads. Not too many people out in the early afternoon ... and nobody on East Fork for the first time ever. They were closing the gate just as I finished ... so that's why I went over to Laguna since they were not going to let me climb back up and Irvine PD were all over the place out there.

No freakin' kids, so that was a plus. :Roflmao

Fun, but I wish I had started earlier.

Got out today with one of my daughters , her husband and my 2 grand kids. Penasquitos falls and more. My son in law has been working out really hard for the past 6-8 months to get into shape and he finally said he was ready. We all took off toward the falls and about half way there Matt and I branched off up the powerline and hit a nice fun loop that included Tunnel #5 and cobbles among others. It was a very nice day with the family. Good job Matt.

Went up for an afternoon Wildhorse run. The plan made sense: pedalling by 3:00, done well before 5:00, should be plenty of light, right???
Wildhorse at sunset, no lights. It was actually pretty awesome, but sketchy as fnck. I recommend lights...and voting to make DST a year-round thing.
