I Rode My Bike Today...

Such a fun day. One of my favoritest days in a minute. Worth the price of admission just to hear @rossage hold court. I'd forgotten what a fun ride this is, even if it's uphill both ways. Actually, having not ridden it in over a year it was a good measure of progress, and it was much more in my wheelhouse than previously. Great crew, lots of laughs, perfect temps and cool terrain. What it's all about.

Oh, and I haven't had legit bike envy in a while, but @SnakeCharmer 's new Banshee is the shiz. That tinted raw finish may be the 2nd sexiest finish in all of mountain biking, and the bike had a cool, solid yet compliant feel to it.

Really great ride with some of the (but, by no means all,) of the IMTB all-stars.
I would’ve taken more pictures but, I was busy trying to catch-up.

And, I have to agree with @buggravy , that bike is nice! I’m glad I’m not a hard tail guy or I’d be very jealous.

Fun day... Uphill both ways! Very cool ride with a great crew... Backbone Trail from Kanan to Corral.

As we were eating at Sharky's afterwards, I got a text about a little different kind of ride happening in the OC... @mtnbikej .

15/3000 ish

There's a message for the President to the left. Not sure if he's seen it, though.

The exemption bike made the first 6 feet. Fun coming down, though... Ross cleaned it.

That's what I'm talking about!

Awesome day on the trails. Good meeting and riding with Ben and @buggravy. The rest of our group was known hooligans and good riders.
Tougher than it looks, rigid made me pay for any slow reflexes and I caught myself preloading my plush MRP Ribbon coil- that is on my other bike!
I may have been the only crash with a slow rollover on the steep ass uphill that started the ride. After that my shifting was noisy and grindy and I may have a cracked frame.
Other than that, it was an awesome day in the Santa Monicas!

Brown El P this morning.

Saw momma and baby deer near the hut going up fern.

Halfway up brown and realized I left my phone in the car...

When I finished I realized I didn't record on Garmin either...

Felt good climbing, a little more hesitance going down El P, even though eary in the descent I took an alternate line and hit a sizeable drop that made me pucker.... But cleaned it anyway.... Then almost ate it in the first Creek crossing trying to not run into a mom and newborn....

Took it easy the rest of the way down... Lots to practice on that trail...

@Derkderkall - Did I see you out there? It was probably 7:45 when I passed JPL. I was on the single speed, and I was huffing and puffing pretty heavy.

Well... I started out to do my standard Sunday morning Brown/ el Prieto quickie. The climb up Brown hurt with the smaller cog, so I was pretty excited to hit the downhill. I didn't even stop, and just rolled in... As I was getting ready to turn onto el Prieto, I had the idea to keep going. Never been that way, so a little exploring was in order. It's a nice little single track and then it turns into fire road down to Millard Campground. After Millard it turns into the pavement climb from hell. Cars parked on the side all the way up to the gate. I don't know the road's real name. I'm just going to call it Hell. Seems fitting. :p When all forward motion stopped, I walked. I pedaled a few sections here and there, but it was mostly a hike. :D

Eventually I made it up to the connector trail, and took a little side trip over to the ruins.

Wrong bike, riding solo, and no @rossage to follow... Not exactly the scenario I wanted for a ride down Sunset. Oh well... I'm not opposed to walking. :p I played around on a few things, and made it down in one piece. Where Sunset pops out, I'm not too sure of my options yet. So, I went down the horse trails that @rossage showed me a few weeks ago. Twisty, fun and a little loose... Today there were probably 15 hikers to add to the fun. Everyone friendly... Most wearing masks. I put mine on in the populated areas, and kept it lowered for the Sunset downhill. I pulled it up when I passed anyone...

19.25 miles and 3400 feet.

That paved trail road is the Mt Lowe Motorway, no? I climbed it once instead of going up Lower Merril to get to the ruins.

My ride partner decided to take the weekend off, so I set out on Road 100 for some forest routes into the Cone Peak area, foothills of the stately Mount Rose Wilderness.

Wilderness hut. Welcome to Nevada.

Worked my way up to pine and aspen stands, running streams and hidden meadows, high above the Truckee River and I-80.

At the high point I took an obscure FR that looked to end not far from the start of Trail X. I wondered if there was an extension up to where I was. I gave it a look and decided it would be a bad idea with a bike. Maybe without one. So I happily reversed.

No ST at all, just a good morning workout on the singlespeed in a nice area. Perfect weather and a few respectful ATVers out.

Sounds like you went up mt Lowe road. I've walked it never ridden over there though. Next level after El P.

I started around 6 a.m. got back to the car around 8:30, so Im guessing you were heading up fern at that point.

You missed the ST trail head on your left as you were passing through Millard. That's Lower Sunset and it takes you up to the pavement around where the Horse Trails start. It's a funner way of climbing up to the point.

Those are some pretty big holes in the old camper. Anti aircraft rounds?
