We lost one of our own today

I was taking a breather on Serrano Ridge today when some guy screamed by me and was gone

Got home, thought I'd check Strava flyby see if I could see how fast he was

Turns out he said he gave CPR to a MTBer near Ridge Park (along with the guys friends)

Apparently he didn't make it, might've been a heart attack(?)

As I'd climbed W Fork I'd seen the paramedic/ FD truck and wondered if they'd been doing training or...?

:-( Spare a thought for our brother, his family and those who tried to help him

Very sad news. We also lost a local rider last weekend, Jane Gainer at Simpson Park in Hemet, CA

exact details unknown, but someone said he crashed so I assume from head or neck injuries

Very sad news indeed... :(
Has it been released yet who it is?
I hope that it ends up that he died doing what he truly loved...
Thoughts for his family and loved ones..

Only other info, the guy who posted on strava is Charles and he said the MTBer was named Joe

LAGUNA BEACH – A man in his 50s died while mountain biking Thursday in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, authorities said.

At 10:08 a.m., the Orange County Fire Authority was notified that a man had suffered a medical emergency while riding with several other bicyclists on the Balmer Ridge and Willow Canyon trails, said Capt. Steve Concialdi.

Several bystanders and OCFA firefighter/paramedics, who arrived by ambulance and helicopter, began advanced life support but the man didn’t survive.

“Unfortunately, OCFA firefighter/paramedics had to pronounce the patient dead at the scene,” Concialdi said.

The cause of the death remains under investigation.

Yikes - that hits pretty close to home for a lot of us. Sounds like a heart attack while climbing Willow. That SUCKS. I hope his family finds a way to be at peace with that. RIP Brother!

...Wonder if he was killed by strava.

Wow - interesting thought. Pushing yourself too much in order to impress others with your numbers... Doubtful, but doubly tragic if that turns out to be a contributing factor.

This is a total bummer. Living life can be dangerous and I hope his family and friends can find some peace knowing he was out doing something he loved.
