Trail Terrorists in Alberta

People suck... And the perpetrators should have to watch while their loved ones nearly severe their heads with the wire they strung. Unreal.

Unless of course the whole thing is a hoax and the man was actually riding an ATV and ran into a legitimately-placed barbed-wire fence. In that case, well a huge fine sounds like a good idea. Maybe an $8000 fine.

Another one from July 5th that I stumbled upon while searching for more articles on the OP's incident. Apparently, the polite British aren't above trail sabotage either. The comments after the article are batsh!t crazy. o_O

Barbed wire intentionally left to injure cyclists on popular trail

A CYCLIST has slammed an anti-cycling vigilante who laid barbed wire on cycle track causing him to go to hospital.

Riley Alexander, 44, from Hanover was mountain biking with two friends in Stanmer Park in Lewes Road, Brighton on Tuesday evening.

Riding at 20 mph, he was caught in the barbed wire that had been intentionally laid across the Zorro cycling trail.

Mr Alexander said the booby trap had the potential to seriously hurt someone.

He said: “I hit one of the jumps, landed and felt something whip up.

“I thought I had a loose a tree branch stuck in my back wheel, but then I felt something dig in my leg so I stopped and saw barbed wire wrapped around my wheel.

“If I was a less experienced rider and it got caught on a front wheel that I could have flipped them over and done some serious damage.

“It was rusty barbed wire, so after riding I went to hospital.”

Mr Alexander went to A&E at the Royal Sussex Hospital to have a tetanus jab, and luckily his bike which he has spent nearly £3,500 on modifying wasn’t damaged.

The bike mechanic and keen mountain biker said he wasn’t shocked by the trap which is called trail sabotage in the cycling world.

He added: “I’m not massively surprised - it’s getting to the time of year where trail sabotage does happen. There are walkers who think mountain bikers should be anywhere near there.

“I do mountain biking because it is my passion going off-road. I don’t know why someone would take the risk of seriously injuring someone.

“If anything it will make us cyclists pull together.”

Two years ago Sussex Police issued a warning after half a dozen trip wires were discovered strung across paths in Coldean Woods, Brighton.

The same year a cyclist broke his collarbone after he was dragged from his bike by a trip wire strung between two trees near East Brighton Golf Club.

Brighton and Hove cycling campaign group Bricycles called for the police to investigate. Becky Reynolds, campaigns officer and news editor, said: “I hope the police will be involved.

“Stringing wires across paths could cause injuries to children and wildlife as well as the intended victim.

“If the police are aware of any antagonism towards cyclists, I hope they will investigate the likely sources.”

Brighton and Hove City Council said they are investigating.

Well, since it's England...

Draw and quarter. Burn at the stake. But burn the entrails first, before detaching them. Get Torquemada involved.

I should have kept quiet. Too bad you can't fix the trail saboteurs the same way! Those turkeys should be strung up.

It's odd... but where I ride my bike we don't have a saboteur problem.

Apparently, all may not be as it first seemed... The "doubtful" stories came in pretty fast after it happened. Most locals did not believe it. Then stories of his other GoFundMe accounts started popping up.

Questions raised over Calgary claim
GoFundMe is earmarking donations made to Stelianos Psaroudakis after questions have been raised about the authenticity of his claim that his neck was slahed by a trail trap.
37-year-old Stelianos Psaroudakis was admitted to hospital with a neck injury but complaints to GoFundMe have raised doubts about what actually happened. He had raised $851 of $8,000 when the page was taken down.

Rachel Hollis, GoFundMe spokesperson, released the following statement on Wednesday:We can confirm that the organiser has removed the campaign and that we are looking into this. When a campaign receives complaints, as in this case, we place the funds on hold until additional information is provided by the campaign organiser. We’ve reached out to the campaign organiser for this additional information.

“It’s important to remember that our platform is backed by the GoFundMe Guarantee, which means that we guarantee the money goes to the right place. In the rare case that GoFundMe, law enforcement or a user finds campaigns are misused, donors are fully protected and will get their money back.”

The nature of the complaints has not been released. For more info, click here.

Stelianos claims he was riding with a group of friends along the West Bragg Creek trail at around 8pm last Wednesday when he was clotheslined by the trail trap that was strung between two trees. Psaroudakis was apparently flippped from his bike and landed on a large rock.

Supposedly, Stelianos was knocked unconscious and also suffered lacerations to his neck and liver and injuries to his lower back. His friend, who was riding 15 metres behind him, was certain he had died. Stellianos’ chihuahua, Kiwi, who was in his backpack, also suffered injuries.

The GoFundMe was set up to help pay for a new bike and some deer cameras to catch whoever was stringing up the wire.

Members of the Cochrane RCMP detachment have launched an investigation into the incident. Anyone with information regarding the intentional placement of hazards on trails or the location of Psaroudakis’ bike is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP, 403-932-2211, or anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers.

There's another shady Greek starting up a questionable fundraising campaign.

It is starting to look like this guy was angling for a new bike. I don't know what happened, maybe he did get clotheslined but he needed $8000 for a bike and expenses? His healthcare costs would be covered for the most part. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The guy has now been charged with theft under $5000 for the go fund me stuff.
Turns out he hit the barbed wire while on an at atv another location and lied about it so he could get a new bike.
The Canadian newspaper site wouldn't let me link to the site, but those are the sordid details.
Ha!

Stelianos Psaroudakis Faces Fraud Charges For Claiming He Was Hurt By Barbed Wire Trap On Trail
"It had nothing to do with the trail system or with mountain biking at all."

Fundraising site GoFundMe has taken down Stelianos Psaroudakis' profile and campaign. Psaroudakis claimed that he was hurt by a barbed wire trap on a cycling trail.
COCHRANE, Alta. — Fraud and public mischief charges have been laid against a man who said he was severely injured by barbed wire that was strung across a mountain biking trail and then appealed for $8,000 in donations.

Stelianos Psaroudakis, 37, said he was clotheslined by barbed wire tied between two trees while he was cycling near the hamlet of Bragg Creek west of Calgary. He shared photos of a big red gash across his neck.

Psaroudakis also said he left his bike behind on the trail after the fall and it was gone when a friend went back to get it.

He started an online fundraising campaign to raise money for medical bills and a new bike. He raised $851 before taking it down after numerous complaints. GoFundMe says it has since banned him.

It had nothing to do with the trail system or with mountain biking at all.
RCMP said Friday they received numerous tips from the public and from people that know Psaroudakis.

"As a result of all of the information that they provided us, we were able to determine that he had not hurt himself on the trail the way he claimed," said RCMP Cpl. Curtis Peters.

"We found out that he had actually been involved in a collision with a barbed wire fence, but he was riding an ATV on private property of a friend nearby and that's how he got the injuries.

"It had nothing to do with the trail system or with mountain biking at all."

Psaroudakis turned himself in Friday afternoon and was released pending a court appearance on Aug. 22.

Attempts to reach Psaroudakis were unsuccessful.

He has reportedly used GoFundMe in past fundraising campaigns, including for the Fort McMurray wildfire.

Also on HuffPost Canada:

GoFundMe spokeswoman Rachel Hollis said Psaroudakis closed his campaign and all donors have been refunded. He's been banned from any future fundraising.

"Campaigns with misuse are very rare, making up less than one tenth of one per cent of all campaigns," she said in a statement.

"Along with a host of proactive measures to prevent misuse, we also have the ability to receive reports from users about potential fraudulent activity, as in this case."

Things like this make me fearful for the residents of the great state of Alberta. I hope we can expand the travel ban to help out our fellow Americans in Canada.
We should ban all Greek trail terrorist immigrants, and their descendants to the ninth degree.
MAGA!
Long Live Spicer!!!!
