On the trail yesterday 2 of the chainring bolts came off and caused this ... :(

Hey! You are missing the other gears! This was catastrophic. What happened to the rest of them! :lol:

Yup....had the same thing happen on a E13 ring on my SS on Main Divide going to Motorway.

Bent the ring pretty good. Fortunately I had some zip ties in my pack. Bent the ring back with a rock, and zip ties the holes with the missing bolts. Was able to complete the ride. Ended up having to replace the ring.

Much more diligent about checking them now.

Similar story to mtnbikej, lost two bolts racing up at rim nordic and used two twist ties that hold your number plate to get me to the finish. I also check them regularly now.
 
I lost all 4 bolts riding down Toads once and I carry chainring bolts and just replaced them when I got to the bottom. I figured I sheared them off going down.

zip ties that strong? assuming you were on the SS and climbing.
