The People Suck Thread

I just went outside to take my garbage cans to the curb... and found that someone had stolen the car cover off our car in our driveway.

It was there at 1:30 PM when I came home from lunch. Gone at 5:00 PM. My wife and I were in the house... but due to the heat we had the house buttoned up and the A/C on.

Crazy, huh? I am going to have to buy a locking cable for the future.

On my 'other' web site, someone shared this analogy.

Imagine you are trekking in the wilderness. You have a horrible emergency and think you are going to die. Suddenly out of nowhere, some French dude that lives in the back-country shows up and at considerable risk to his own well-being carries you to safety - literally saving your life. Talking to him in the hospital, you find that he has the exact opposite religious beliefs and political beliefs that you do. Do you hate him?

Of course not. He performed a service that goes beyond personal beliefs and opinions. Life first.

Hating someone requires that I first care that they exist. It takes way too much energy and effort.

I would hate me for being subject to his ignorant, naive, bigoted benevolence.

Oh wait...

Does anyone remember the comradery that formed after the 9/11 terrorist attack? It was easy for me to see most everywhere I went. It did not last long, but it was clearly there. Our countryman pulled together, if only for a little while. No rude drivers, no rude attitudes, and common courtesy prevailed. The people showed compassion and genuine concern for one another. It was magical but it is sad that it took something so terrible to open everyone's eyes. People do not suck all the time.

I left my flip flops on the sand near a family while I caught a few waves. When I got out, my flops were gone. I asked the family if they saw someone take them. No, they hadn’t. Dejected, I walked home barefoot.

Next day I went out for more waves. I saw my flip flops sitting out in the dunes and ice plant, neatly, side-by-side as I left them a few hundred yards away near the family.

My flip flops were nabbed while surfing in Carlsbad this summer. I stuck them vertically in the sand way above the high tide line. Couldn't find them when I came in (I was only out an hour, but I didn't stare at the beach). I am guessing one of the 10,000 homeless in SD County grabbed them. I hope he/she has big feet!

People do appear to suck :(
Made it about all of a block and half from picking the hire car up on Saturday morning at LAX before some muppet decided to turn into our lane and wipe their front bumper down the passenger side of our car... Managed to find a place that did a cut and polish which has luckily removed their paint work but theres a dent on the front fender that will need to come out with a PDR. Messaged the people that hit us and explained what I'd spent so far and the fact it looks they have caught a lucky break in terms of the damage they caused (In Oz we'd say kissed on the dick by an angel)

Getting complete silence in return, I can see they have received and read the messages

I'm very tempted to submit an insurance claim just to mess with them.

Can anyone recommend a PDR guy in the Costa Mesa area?
