OK, so Doug and I went to Simi Valley to ride today, and discovered The Grudge trail, right next to Hummingbird. It was awesome.

What I want to know, from anyone who knows the trails around there, is whether there's a decent pedal up that doesn't involve roads. I've looked at trailforks and mtbproject, and any loops I'm seeing involve more road pedalling than I want to do. What are the options?

If you're gonna make the loop from the bottom to the top, then two cars (shuttle) are needed if you don't want to pedal. Otherwise, you can go the long way around through the hills on Las Llajas fire road and loop around via Seashells. Probably still a small amount of road riding to do though?

@UPSed will know.

Chumash is the long way around.
Shuttling is the best bang for having fun on the trails in that area. Bike Nerd will shuttle in their van to the trailhead. $6 each lap or 3 for $15.
The pedal up that fire road sucks, especially with a full face helmet and knee pads on.

Or self shuttle for free I guess. It seems 3 of those fire road climbs are worth 3 Grudge runs, the hideous fire road takes out any guilt I may feel about shutting.

I take Correganville up the sbacks to Stage Coach. That pops out 50 yards before the Rocky Peak fwy bridge. Cross then hell to pay up Rocky Peak to the Bird, down the bird and its a mile back to your car on the pavement, but you can also go into the Hopetown homes and reduce the pavement. If you are badass find the top of the G spot and take it down. There are a few ways so you do not need to leap the 20' sandstone faces. Or you can go up a little more and take Animal down, it only has one 10' vertical, it pops under the freeway at the same place of the G spot.
G spot and Animal only have 75 yards of pavement. Me I do the bird or just climb Chumash for a 15 minute speedy drop, fast, straight and lots of air

Thanks that helps. It's nice to be able to compare what pedalling a loop would be to shuttling. Your map makes it look like there's dirt access near the end of Ardenwood/Charing, and we could - if we wanted to pedal a loop - go thru there to reconnect to the Rocky Peak climb. Does that sound right?
