Save Greer Ranch

Is that link a one click (ie it signs when you click?)? I tried to read the petition but it just said thanks for signing.

Apparently not...

By the way, that photo features the invasive black mustard (Brassica nigra) as the dominant species out there.
That appears to be the dominant weed across all of Southern California now. I heard it is not indigenous to the United States, but from Europe. Not anymore. It is the Devils Weed (not for safety break kind), and it is overtaking everything and extremely difficult to get rid of. Mow early, mow often.

Yep. My foreign national grandma and naturalized parents would spend weekends at the fringes of open space to harvest that stuff for food. As a kid, I always liked how the slugs and lady bugs would crawl out of the sink as the mustard soaked for an hour in the kitchen to "get rid" of pesticides and sediment from the leafs. Boil for an hour in water with a pressure cooker, drain, add lots of olive oil, salt, and lemon. Xorta!

Awesome!
I'll have a 12 Foot x 8 Foot x 6 Foot Box Dump Trailer at your house this Saturday full fresh cutlings!

It would suck immensely to lose this masterpiece. Maybe A-A-Ron can buy it out from under them and let us enjoy it for ever more!

I once found held a beautiful rose boa at Greer.. moved if off the trail so it would get squished..pxs here somewhere
Sucks...

Yup, that’s the only way it works. Riverside county parks dept?
How big is the parcel? Will they do the Irvine Co thing and carve out little pieces for parkland? Or is the whole parcel slated to be graded?

it’s not impossible that RivCo could step in if they have room in the budget and consider it a good place for a park. Barham Ranch was in a similar situation when OC ponied up for it.

I think Barham Ranch was a bit different. They wanted to build a school down in the flood plain.

I do believe the current plans are for about a third of the area. But, you know how that goes.. that's only phase one.

Hopefully some So. Cal. manufacturers can rise up and get their voices heard with the city planning. They're going to need more than a bunch of signatures to get the city to save the day. I know if I was a local to Greer, I'd be acting like some of these "peaceful protesters".

Okay....

#1) It wasn’t “just bought by a developer”. It has been owned by a developer for years and always been slated for residential development. Cal Trans is (was?) slated to build on/off ramps there in 2021. My buddy has a GPS hunting map and we checked the area years ago. There were 4-5 owners of various parcels. At least 2 were development companies and BLM has a tiny sliver.

#2) I was contacted last Summer by one of the advocacy reps for IVMTB regarding dealing with F&G and she told be that the Riverside County Parks dept had bought A bunch of the land back there. She said the Parks dept had told them that they want help in documenting the trail system so they know what’s sustainable long term. It was implied to me that they bought the area leading back to Distortion, Overdrive and Rabbit Hole.

As much as I like riding Greer, I’ve known all along that the trails were built illegally on private land and I was essentially trespassing. However, the landowners knowingly allowed us to ride there. They never put up fencing or signage or called in law enforcement for that matter. However, if anybody thinks they are going to walk away from building all those homes and then let the people behind the petition continue to use the land, you’re crazy. The IVMTB knows this and that’s why they are NOT pushing the petition. They want to work with the County and developer to try to save as many trails as possible.

They have it posted on their FB group page to sign.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/ivmtbmembers/

Well then they changed their position...or their FB person doesn't talk to their advocacy people that have posted on other FB sites I belong to. In one of those other FB groups that's more specific to Greer Ranch, one guy claims he called somebody in the department that oversees development and was essentially politely told something to the effect that there was no stopping the development. If it's true that Riverside County parks bought the area where Distortion & Overdrive are, I'm sure the County can/will use that to say that mountain biking has it's share of space. The County also owns another parcel further to the North but I can't tell if it's where Jumping Mouse is or not because the map they've posted isn't very detailed.

This article has the crude map I mentioned. It's not very detailed because I know there's other land owners (or was in April 2019) including the BLM. https://patch.com/california/lakeelsinore-wildomar/s/h41tp/hundreds-new-homes-planned-murrieta-public-comment-sought?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_term=politics+&+government&utm_campaign=autopost&utm_content=lakeelsinore-wildomar&fbclid=IwAR3qmQoHU26cYjP_CBFuJ7-56-opfa_Cjeks1PSYuDsiGGUVRMcOSM8g5rg

Here's the link that shows this has been planned since 1994...25+ years!!! https://www.murrietaca.gov/Document...JhbI3JXk3Hg6CyZPpo4dQ9-TeV7X2VybGWmdOXQKZUu24
