Road tires/slicks for MTB?

I'm looking to get some road/street tires..I'm looking at the Maxxis Holy Roller 26 2.4's..these are the widest street MTB tires I've found for a 26. Anybody know of a bigger road slick for a 26? (I saw the Hookworm which are 2.5..but would like some tread..)
 
Just out of curiosity why as wide as possible? I assume this is for winter training?
