Ride Packing list

Do any of you keep one??? Basically a list of everything you carry in your camelbak/hydration pack so when you pack before a ride, you dont forget to grab something.

Having multiple bikes sometimes requires different tools, tube sizes, tools, etc and possibly where and how long the ride is might dictate that.

Post em up if you got one! I lost mine... :(

I tend to keep it simple.

Seat bag:
1 tube
1 tire lever
1 tire boot
I pack glue less patches
3 links of chain

Jersey Pocket:
Mini Pump
Multitool
Nutrition
Extra Bottle(if necessary)

If anything goes worse than that, I probably can't fix it on trail anyway.

Spare contacts and one of those small travel/trial size lense solution bottles.

Only applicable if you need to see where you're going, and can't without them...

I tend to also carry a small lock back knife, valve adapter(Presta to Schrader), chain tool (if not on my multi tool), zip ties, spare derailleur hanger

And if on a really long ride, shifter and derailleur cables

Oh most important item, Mountain Money (TP) Ya never know when nature may call!!!

Depends on the ride.

local rides from my house 10-20 miles: sometimes nothing... but I always try to keep a tube and CO2 inflator and a quick link in my seat bag. I think of the seat bag as a spare tire kit for a car. Every bike should have one with correct size tube. I do need to put a tire patch in there on my main ride.

longer back country rides: add to above, food, pump, extra CO2, chain links, first aid, cash money, toilet paper, folding tool, etc...

one thing I bring if I'm going way out with no cell coverage is an emergency beacon. I have the ACR resqulink

Good on you for running a beacon, Carl. Too few of those on solo riders, IMO.

I don't keep a list. I keep all the goods in a hydration pack so I don't have to. Of course the contents gets tweaked based on the ride.

For some activities I would be hopeless without a list. A day ride's gear is just not that expansive.

My list is very close to J's... with the change of CO2 for the mini-pump... For local rides around RSM, I just take the seat bag and a bottle.

As the weather cools, I will be adding a windbreaker, emergency blanket, matches, etc for any ride in the mountains. Those of us from STR remember quite well the tragedy last year just below Santiago Peak.

The contents listed below are off the top of my head. There might be something else, but these are the most important things.

There is a seat bag on each bike that is equipped with the minimal stuff. This is because I often ride without a Camelback, and I want each bike to be ready to roll with no fuss. By carrying minimal stuff, there's a chance of carrying the bike for miles. That's the risk you take if you want to travel light. In the seatbags are:

one tube
one CO2 tool that's stripped down
two CO2 cartridges
piece of plastic to use as a boot
tire lever
multitool
chain link
business card
couple tie wraps

The Camelbak is for longer, more serious rides. In that will go:

another tube
tire pump
patch kit
space blanket
maybe a short length of chain
maybe another chain link
a couple tie wraps
two used brake pads
a couple paper towels
an emergency Clif Bar and Gu (in addition to my expected nutrition)
business card
maybe a lighter

There's a small whistle that I've been meaning to put in the Camelbak. It's a good idea. The Camelback bladder is completely full whenever I take it, and on more strenuous rides, I'll bring a water bottle with Accelerade.

yep. I forgot ZIP TIES

really can save the day sometimes. in fact, I need to throw a few in my seat bag. thanks for the reminder.

And THAT's exactly why I made this thread!! I lost the list I had and wanted some suggestions/reminders as to what to pack and what not to pack.

camelback only.

2 tubes
mini pump
shock pump
tire lever
assorted zip ties
multi tool
leatherman tool
locking blade knife
4-5 extra chain links
master links
paper clips
gauze roll
small first aid kit
small towel or rag
compass
i.d.
phone
food (varies)
water bladder

Whats the paper clips used for??? never seen that in a ride pack so I am curious

I've used it to tie a chain together when no links are handy. also, can be used to tie/hold other things on the bike if bolt breaks. think of it as a heavy duty zip tie.

Hmmm Macgyver would be proud...

oh he is aware! he helped with the list of items.

I guess this should be a separate post but I have never had good luck with Co2 inflaters but some swear by them (I swear at them).

Hmmm. Water, multi tool with chain tool, nutrition, 2 tubes in Ziplocs (great for carrying severed fingers!), contact lens stuff, chain parts, shock pump, tire pump, two tire levers, zip ties, rudimentary bandage stuff, Gu flask, locking blade knife (Gerber) - quick access, cell phone, derailleur cable, derailleur hanger,

And for long rides on the Fully Loop:
chain whip, crank puller, truing stand, spokes, pedal wrench, tap and die set, lights, extra derailleur, brake bleed kit, brake pads, spare pedals, shock rebuild kit, tent, emergency bacon...

I'm glad you remember the all important chain whip. Be lost without it! And don't forget the spare fork, just in case..... :D

The lists are pretty consistent, and include the basics I carry.
I also carry a mylar blanket and "survival pack in a sardine can. I think it was a gag gift, but I thought was really cool. Figure between the two I'd get through a night. ( the "energy nugget" is a very small tootsie roll. LOL.)

Talkin' about tubes and stuff... It's a good idea to replace your spares occasionally. I took mine out of the seat bag once, just because I was checking inventory, and found that the tube was worn through where it had been rubbing for months/years against something else in the bag. There would have been no patching it.
