Hope Pro 2’s 40T laced to WTB Frequency i-25 rims
Just got this set of wheels built over at Buena Park Bikes by Hugo got a few months on the set now and could not be happier. This is the second set of wheels Hugo has built for me first set were some novatac wheels.
Front
The all new Pro ll hub has sealed cartridge bearings and can be swapped from 20mm to QR
Weight – 180g
Rear
The all new Pro2 40T this hub features a one piece 7075 aluminum rotor body and pawl carrier. Four pawls engage into a 40 tooth steel ratchet 9 degree engagement which is fixed into the hub shell and is sealed with a frictionless, non contact labyrinth seal. The axle runs on four cartridge bearings. The hub shell is machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aluminum.
Weight: 295g
Rims
WTB Frequency i-25 team rims. I went with the Frequency over a Flow do to the I-Beam construction in the rim and a lower price point. The rim fetchers 4D drilling aid in lateral strength, UST compliant inner rim profile.
Weight: 512g
Hole: 32
Inner Rim Width: 25mm
Rim size: 27.5
I’m running this set on a 2014 Intense Tracer 275. 15mm front axle and 142x12 in the rear.
160lbs all mountain/ trail rider
The 4 pawls and 40t drive gives a solid engagement the 40t is quieter than the older 24t drive but still has a good sound (I like loud hubs). I run a XT cassette on aluminum free bodies do to there are fewer sections to gouge into the aluminum free hub body. The engagement feels solid and you really feel like you can hammer down without having problems. There is no noticed drag out of the hubs and they spin freely. The wheelset is incredible stiff and I like the 25mm with over my older 23mm with. I feel the front wheel is planted and bits little more in cornering at a reasonable more weight over the 23mm. Tires mounted up nicely with a small compressor and I like the UST/TCS the tire locks into the rim bead really tightly. After a few months of riding I threw the wheels on stand and checked their trueness and tension both in excellent shape after some good thrashing.
Over all if you don’t want a wheelset you have to baby around at a reasonable weight and wont brake the bank I would check out the new hope hubs and wtb frequency rims.
