The Forest Service is considering issuing a special use permit to the Heroes Project for construction of several buildings at the site of the former Icehouse Canyon Lodge and Resort, which burned down in the late 1980's. Heroes Project will offer mountaineering opportunities to disabled veterans, and a single cabin for lodging, guiding services, and a store will be open to public. The project will increase security and presence at the site through private use under the 1915 Term Permit Act, and provide amenities at one of the most popular trailheads in the Angeles National Forest. The Angeles National Forest is seeking public comment on potential environmental effects of issuing a permit for this project. Please see the file links for a letter from Forest Supervisor Ray Torres soliciting public comments, and a detailed project description including maps, plans, and simulated photos of finished construction. To submit your comments, please click on the "Comment/Object on Project" link on the right.
