Price check for first bike!

Going to be moving to the SoCal area soon and have been looking for a bike. Came across a 2013 Trek Stache 7 with a stansflow mk3 and a dt swiss hub on the rear wheel. Bike does not come with pedals. Got the price down to $700 but not sure if this is a good deal and if I should keep looking elsewhere. Any advice appreciated.

I'll play the other side of the coin... The Avid Elixirs (especially the 1s) have a bad reputation. My first full suspension bike came with them, and I got about 4,000 miles out of them- mostly trouble free. I never had a problem with them... Until I tried better. But, that's the nature of this hobby. There's always something better... We never stop upgrading. :p

If the bike you're looking at is in good shape, it can take you just about anywhere in SoCal...

The rear wheel is also a big step up from the factory wheel.

I had those brakes on a 2013 Giant Reign and they are indeed horrible. Maybe it was because I was still a new rider and braking too much, but about 2/3 way down the Luge they would overheat and stop working. Also there's little to no modulation. It was complete on or off which led to a few OTB crashes.
