One trail closes......

As one trail closes, another one opens.

I was on Bommer Ridge today and I saw a ranger putting more branches and bushes on the entrance of the old Marie Calendars trail. I didn't think too much about it other than wonder why people keep trying to ride a trail that is obviously blocked off and illegal. Anyway, as I was heading up Upper Laurel I saw a new sign at the exit:

It sucks the first one was closed, but its pretty cool we'll be getting a new legal trail in the area.

Glad they are officially opening Lizards, but Marie's should be a legal open trail too. I would be happy if they would open a couple of trails a year for a couple of years without closing others. Their 42 miles of open trails they "brag" about are pretty much just fireroads. I'm no wildlife expert, so I guess I will have to assume their limitations are necessary. I have my doubts.

Thanks for the post. I have to admit, though, that the typical "Ranger Think" leaves me more cynical than ever. It makes no sense that putting up a sign on Marie Calendar, as they claim, makes it possible to open Lizard. They both were closed, now they put up a sign on one so they can open the other. I fail to see the connection. Further, if Lizard was such a sensitive area as they've been telling us for years, then what has changed so it's no longer ecologically sensitive?

The more they lie to us today, the less likely we will listen to them in the future.
