On sunday Mcg & me patrolled & Mcg also did some tread work on Strawberry / Colby loop trai in our Angeles National Forest . It was a perfectly beautiful day, We had alot of visitors. On our patrol we helped a fellow mtbiker with a flat tire as his pump was broken, Came across hikers that needed directions back to where they had parked, then a group that was not prepared for the cold in the meadow, So we advised them to turn back as it was getting late and colder! It was a perfect day! Until!!! On our way back, the last saddle before Red box (it's a beautiful spot to enjoy the views) There must of been a group who decided to have a picnic & Than unfortunately decided to leave all! their trash and even throw some down the side of the mountain . After cleaning up the area, We still left saying that it was a perfect day,

I must say that I do not know that I could have written the above post with such zen.

My pack coming out of the Santa Ana Mountains on Sunday included two mylar balloons, peanut wrappers, and various squished aluminum cans. It is so very dispiriting to be pushing out a perfect pace-- only to spot a piece of waste that will require a dismount, grab, stuff, remount. But if you don't do it, who will?

Thanks for setting an example for us all McGs!

Thanks McGs! At least it was just trash-in the ANF, it could've been a body!!!!

I went on a hiking trip in China as a favor for a friend. He is the President of a large corporation and he wanted me along on his team building hike. We stopped for a break at what should have been a quiet waterfall and forest stream. The place was destroyed with trash. So, while my buddy gave them the company kool-aid, I wandered around and picked up a discarded plastic bag. I crushed each plastic bottle or can before putting I to the bag. Didn't realize that the team building talk was over and people were staring at me. They asked, "Why are you doing this?" The only answer I had was, "if I don't, who will?" This seemed to have struck a chord with my Chinese friends and soon everyone was picking up trash and putting it in their packs. Talk about team building!

I try to pick up at least one thing every ride and I usually don't have to go far to get it.

THANKS for being out there! I hope that any friend of mine knows this already!

There has to be some sort of consultant gig you get from this!!!

Much appreciated @Mikie Robin Mcguire!

@rossage, what you accomplished is phenomenal!

I have a dream; I mean, one time ago a crazy dream came to me, that every sentient individual pitching in by collecting a plastic bottle here or a mylar ballon there will offset the sacrilege described above. Culture is shared, but it also can be learned. Way to set the good example, friends!

The first couple weeks of the year, when things like this happen, I tend to say it is the "New Years Resolution" users that cause this. Users that only come out for a few days after the new year, then go back to their sedentary lifestyle because being out on the trails is too much work. They just don't know the rules of being outdoors.

These are the same people that go off trail, litter, don't pick up after dogs, spook horses, don't yield, ride in mud, skid down the trails.....you get it.
