Music.... I’m Going To Listen To Some

A little change of musical pace is on the menu for tonight

How was that splash of variety, @Luis?
It was awesome to see a true icon perform live. Mavis is 80 years young and still has a great voice. She might not have a powerful voice like Aretha did but she ranks right up there because of her gospel background.
The Soraya is a little cozy and elegant concert venue on the CSUN campus.
88.5 fm is a independent radio station that broadcasts out of Cal State Northridge and saddle back college. When my son was attending school at CSUN we started to listen to that radio station.
They pride themselves on being independent (ad free) and on the variety of music they play.
That’s how we heard about this concert. I’m glad we went :)

Holy shyt, genre rollcall! I can imagine the price of admission being a bargain if all the original Church members make it and you saw only them. Wow.
Completely agree!

This can't be real. Bauhaus with Peter Murphy? Morrissey who never shows up for anything? Psych Furs with Richard Butler?

English Beat plays around here a lot. I love Dave Wakeling, but it's not English Beat without Ranking Roger (RIP).

What’s in a name, for sure. After getting burned a couple of times, I take em with a grain of salt and find out personnel.

Other end of the spectrum... Thought I had Henry Rollins on...Hey Fanatic...

But it wasn't ...it was another KCRW DJ... Kinda reminds me of 80s tech punk.. not sure why it grabbed me..

BTW I have seen BB King, Johnny Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, Sergio Mendes...etc ..catch..those classics while you can ... they are disappearing fast...

I happened to be in Long Beach on Sunday and my buddy suggested we go see Hot Snakes ( ex-Drive like Jehu and Rockets from the crypt) at Alex’s bar.
They are some professional-ass musicians. They got on stage with no fuss and only one opening band. They burned through a long set in about 45 minutes giving it everything.
I was home and in bed by midnight!

Going to see PJ at The Fabulous Forum Saturday night!

I was lucky enough to get floor tickets for Tuesday's opening night show in San Diego... wow! Missed these guys!

Follow up: Last night at the Fabulous Forum was one of the best PJ shows I've ever been to, and possibly best ever.

Full-on sing-along show for 2.5 hours. Amazing music. Fantastic audience of all ages and solid 50/50 male/female. Eddie cried, I cried, everyone cried. I've missed this band!

They ran out of show t-shirts, which sucks.

We saw New Order and Pet Shop Boys with Paul Oakenfold at the Bowl Friday.
I was there for New Order (old Joy Division fan), but they were both very good.
Taking the bus from the Lakewood mall (or other spots) is much better than driving!
We’ll be back in a couple of weeks for Danny Elfman.

I wanted to go to this show but I already had a previous engagement. I have always wanted to see these two hands play.
