My little brother sent me this link, and I'm posting it as a reminder of being safe out there on the road or dirt.

Sad news.

Yet another in a long succession of reminders that you're much better off riding fast and taking chances in the dirt. With riders whose ability you trust.

While it is tragic.....it
appears as though the driver did nothing wrong. It appears as though the peloton crashed forcing some riders into oncoming traffic lanes.

It's not like he was distracted, drunk, texting, sleeping, etc....just an unfortunate chain of events.

Had they not been riding in such a big pack, would it have been the same outcome.....maybe, maybe not.

all roadies should take a bike handling/skills course. Yes, many are strong, but can't manuver their bikes around to save their lives. I know, I have seen it.....not talking about Pro riders....talking about everyone else.

Was just up in that area, climbing Mt. Diablo that morning with the wife and brother-in-law. Compared to down here, there are many more cyclists and the drivers in the East Bay are generally more accommodating than OC/LA/Riverside. The downside is that most of those same roads lack shoulders or margins for error. The incident that it occurred on is as popular a road route as Santiago Canyon down here or the stretch through Pendleton/San Onofre State Beach.

Tragic accident. Could'a, should'a, would'a, but sometimes *&%! happens.
