Mount Wilson advice and/or closures....

What is open on Mount Wilson after the Bobcat Fire? All I can find is info from October 2020. I know the dark side stuff is closed and will remain so until April 2022.

What I specifically want to know is....can we take Hwy 2 up to Mount Hillyer and then run the Chilao Epic route down to Eaton Saddle? So Mt Hillyer to Chilao to Silver Moccasin and then work our way to Eaton Saddle?

If not, how about Red Box? TIA for the help.

Sections of Silver Moc below Chilao are in the closed zone. Hwy 2 is now open all the way to and past Chilao though. Mt Wilson Road remains closed but peds and cyclists are using it without issue to access Eaton Saddle.

Thank you @SnakeCharmer

So can I presume that Red Box is open since we can get to Eaton Saddle?

The Red Box parking area is open, and the American Indian center has been open the past couple weekends. The road to Mount Wilson is technically closed. However... I saw the ranger sitting in her truck at the barrier watching, literally, dozens of people ride and hike past her. She even chatted with a few...

It's also been "STRAVAed" close to 500 times since it was closed...

With that said... The front range is in great shape. :inlove: The question is, will it be covered in snow tomorrow? :D

Thanks for the info. I won't be back in SoCal until March so the snow has plenty of time to melt. We're expecting rain and then snow the next 4 days here as well. The sandy/DG dirt soaks it right up so there's almost always some area that's rideable from what I'm told.
