SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – An Irvine woman reported her husband missing late Wednesday night after he never returned home from a mountain biking trip near Lazy W Ranch Camp, police said.
Irvine Police Department received the missing person report shortly before midnight Wednesday and began search and rescue efforts that reached into Thursday morning, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Irvine Police Department.
Authorities said the man’s car was found near Lazy W Ranch Camp, 23852 Hot Spring Canyon Road.
A Orange County Sheriff’s Department search and rescue team, with the help of a helicopter, searched for the man in that area and around Ortega Highway.
He had not been located as of 8 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Yikes! These always get me on edge praying they are okay.
Another reason I really hate to ride alone...and try never to.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – An Irvine mountain biker who was missing for more than 12 hours was found Thursday afternoon by local search and rescue officials.
James Kretzschmar, 40, was reported missing by his wife shortly before midnight Wednesday after she told police she had not heard from him for several hours, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Irvine Police Department.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department search and rescue officials, along with assistance from outside agencies, began searching for Kretzschmar that night and found his vehicle around 2:30 a.m. in a parking lot of Lazy W Ranch Camp, 23852 Hot Spring Canyon Road, near Ortega Highway.
But that was the last sign of Kretzschmar, and it stayed that way for more than 12 hours.
Rescuers combed trails, and helicopters scoured the skies in the Orange County canyon area near where his car was found for hours until rescuers heard a man shout for help shortly before 1:30 p.m., sheriff’s officials said.
Kretzschmar was located in the Lion Canyon area, about 5 miles away from a San Juan Capistrano fire station, sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
Authorities said he did not immediately appear to be injured and seemed in good health.

Rescuers were overheard saying “we just followed the scent of his emergency bacon.” :D

Glad he was found safe and appears uninjured!!
