Guests to imtbtrails! I have questions for you!
(Just going to be a "Sticky" for a little while. I don't particularly like stickies!)
Don't freak out, "Lurking" is just a term used to describe someone that is not actively participating on a Forum, but just kinda looking around..
This is nothing new to Forums, but as I have surfed the net (<-- do they still say that?) I have noticed some statistics that seem to follow every forum. Over time a Forum may have a lot of Members, yet there are always more guests checking the site out as oppose to members.
For me, it was always me trying to quickly find an answer that may have already been asked by someone else about fixing my car, or how to rebuild a shock, etc etc. So I come across a Forum from doing a search on the net.
For others, it may be that you are shopping around for a Forum to call your home. Or, laziness about signing up, or for the paranoid, that they may be trying to extract information about you and that your going to get spammed to death when they get your email address.
As a new Forum owner (me), I want to build a mountain bike forum that compels guests to become members. Why is that?
The majority of Forums cost money to operate and never make a dime. For the most part it's someone (like me) that has a passion for _______ (fill in the blank), and want to contribute to that "something".
When I was racing Mountain Bikes, I saw the odds of getting sponsors as an individual were much slimmer, as oppose to race teams. So, I started a race team and for the next 4 years got more swag and bike parts and bikes, and floor pumps, and helmets, and cliff bars, and sunglasses, and socks, and shoes, and , and, and, you get the picture!
So you know where this is going.... My goal is to build a huge Membership base so that we (collectively) can have access to the cool swag that companies want to give away to where they get the most impact.
Please come back as often as you like, whether as a guest or as a member, you are MOST welcome. But I encourage you to join our mtb family.
Your not going to get spammed, not going to be put on the spot, and it's real easy to join. Membership is key to a Forum's survival. You get to ask some really experienced MTB'ers all your questions, and we get to ask you some of ours. Please join!
Thanks!
