Kids and being sick

I have an almost 4 year old in school now. I swear I'm sick 80% of the time, and the other 20% i'm too busy to work. I went from riding 4-5x a week to 1-2x a month. The joys of being a parent :).

Oh, and my daughter seems to hate anything on 2 wheels, refuses to wear helmets, and doesn't seem interested in biking at all. I have a balance bike, trike, burley trailer, 4 kinds of helmets, but alas, daddy daughter bike rides doesn't seem to be in my future.

The first schoolyear sucks for parents being sick. Next year, it will be 50%, so look forward to a marked improvement over this [first] year. Your riding schedule is pretty much same as mine. The solution is shorter, slower rides.

For daddy/daughter bike rides, talk to other parents at her school and see if you can arrange a playdate with bikes as an option. Perhaps if she sees her schoolmates riding, she'll try it too. I'm able to maintain trailer rides with my girls because their classmates see me roll up, and all the kids want a ride.

My daughter reluctantly gets into the burley, then tells me to slow down. I even got the fat tire upgrade (2.8" tires) to smooth out the ride for her, but she doesn't like the speed. She likes the acceleration in the rivian, though. Weird.

And talking to other parents involves me being social. ::shudders:: haha. I'm actually trying, but hard to connect with parents in the rush of drop off/pick ups.

Try wearing some Lululemon yoga pants like some of the moms and see if they come talk to you.

What City do you live in? Perhaps we can arrange a playdate and come out your way if you live on a quiet street, or you can come to La Verne with your Meegie, bikes, and a few of her favorite toys. Bikes would be included, but we can set up plenty of other things to do as well: Sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, jump rope, dolls, street hockey, hide and seek, scooters, skateboard (longboard), trip to the park, ice cream tailgating, dance party...How are your dodgeball skills?

I feel ya man... have a 6 year old in Kinder right now... and a 3 year old (at home with MIL). 3 year old has been coughing and thick snot for over a week.. 6 year old was vomiting in the middle of the night last night... I've had sniffles, sinus infection.. and now feel it moving into my chest .. started for me during the first week of Feb...

Luckily my daughter loooooooooooves her bike. (hand me down Woom balance bike) She zips around that thing whenever she can, we now have to jog to keep up with her on walks... Already mastered the hand brake (took my son until he was about 5 (and many pairs of shoes) to get that down

I'm out in Irvine. I'm 5'10" and 265lbs. I think lululemon pants would send the moms screaming :).

Did you have anything before the woom? I have a strider, doona trike, and some target push bike (not balance). Wife won't let me buy more bike stuff until she shows a little more interest.

She did use one of these contraptions from lakeshore

Like many things, seeing her older brother on his bike really helped motivate her I think

-1 on the yoga pants for dudes....

I got my daughter into riding when I got my wife to tag along also. We all rode the Santa Ana Riverbed; the main drag through Peters Canyon (they complained about going back UP :Roflmao:Roflmao but did it), and my daughter ended up riding the FLoop and Black Star to the golf ball when she was 12 -14. Then I was no longer cool.

Keep at it.

My wife is a teacher, 1st grade. Always getting something from the little germ factories, parents of which are totally clueless.

They’re all different.
My eldest (daughter) didn’t care much for the bike and never wanted to take the training wheels off.
Her brother took to it like a duck to water, and was soon zipping around without the trainers.
That pissed her off. The trainers were off in 2 days.
She still doesn’t like to bike, but enjoys running.

You all are making me feel old.
My youngest is 27.....

On a 2 week riding hiatus thanks to the peach tree dishes at the local school and child care.

Herd immunity. Sure beats actual medical science and advancement!
Our oldest went through a 6 month period at child care where he was constantly sick. Since then he has been fitter than a Raetihi ram, only one in our house not to catch Covid when all the rest of us went down. Our youngest is going through the window licking stage (yes, he literally licks the windows), we shake our head and look the other way, do what you need to champ. As far as we are concerned it's a bit of short term pain for long term gain.

You all are making me feel old.

I'll be in my 70's when my youngest is 27, thankfully I have a very (un)healthy Peter Pan complex and think I'm at least 20 years younger than I really am :p I'm sure it will all catch up with me shortly and I'll be a wreck like @herzalot :whistling:
