I used to lurk at STR but it didn't offer anything to me.

Being a newbie here I can’t jump in on this bandwagon. AND when I’m not injured, I don’t have the kind of time to be on here so much BUT...I AM hooked and will continue to play here even when I’m back out in the mtns everyday:thumbsup: that’s a promise:inlove: You guys are a blast!

FYI, I set up the IMTBTrails Strava club on the Strava site a couple years ago with Mikie's blessing. At first it was an "open" club (anyone could join without review). But we always asked that they reference their IMTBT user name, of which some did and some didn't. After getting a few scammers and '5 million feet climbed per year' people, we changed the club to 'private', so approval was needed before being accepted to the 'club'. I did my best to vet new people, at least confirm that they did rides in Socal and some were on dirt. It was surprising how many asking to join did neither of those! They were not accepted in the club, obviously.

We never had a good way to cross reference the Strava user name to verify they were signed up in IMTBT, or ever posted on the forum. Some guys I recognized their name so added them figuring (hoping) they would contribute on the forum. That never happened with some even tho I knew of them and that they were good and fast riders, who often stuck out on the top of Strava leaderboaards. Baffles me why someone would join a club on Strava when they never had any interaction with the group (as far as we know). Ego boost for being top dog in a club of people you never know or ride with?

Anyways, awhile back I passed the Strava club vetting/accepting duties back to Mikie because I was unable to ride for an extended period and never got on Strava for 8 months+.

That's the story that I remember. Tough to figure out who is legit and participates on the forum.... how to clean it up? IDK...

How about message them in their Strava club ride, to verify with a post on imtbtrails?
like: "hi danimal nice strava ride!
could you please verify your participation in imtbtrails by posting on the " Strava club" thread? Include your Strava name please.
This will benefit all users of the site and the Strava club.
Thank you."

Of course, not everyone will be called Danimal :)
