Ibis History

Yeah, no mention of Chuck. He actually handed an Ibis for free. And actually drove it down from Santa Cruz to Laguna Beach for me to pick it up.
I won a Silk SL equipped with Dura-Ace from the blogger Fatcyclist and Scot brought it down to me when he went to stay at his brother's place in Laguna Beach while his brother went to Europe. (Really nice house, too)
Ran into him again later on Baldy during Amgen Tour, we were both on our Silk SLs.
I've really wanted a Mojo and a Hakkaluggi. I was bummed when that went to disc and they got rid of the Hand Job.
When I went to Sea Otter about 6 years ago they had the 15 foot tall Mojo pretending to tow an Airstream.
I like their vibe and bikes.
Cool article.

And cool story!!!

Great article. It’s amazing how few people shaped and run the MTB industry. Pretty small club of hustlers.

The influence of Roxy Lo in IBIS is most interesting me because I am an industrial designer myself and have always wanted to design a bike. But i was a little shook up reading that the first CF Ibis that Roxy designed took several hundred thousand dollars in outside engineering was a little surprising. I imagine Roxy only worked in 2D, and the engineers had to create the 3D surfaces and validate. I’m sure it was difficult. But Like 1800 hours before even making a sample? Man what a difficult game. Apparently it worked out:)

Cool story for sure! I had never heard of Hans Heim before.

Another place with some cool stories is the MTB hall of fame website.
