1. I would like to see that report. I would find it astounding as to how they investigated and concluded that as the culprit. I guess a magnesium crank arm striking a rock is possible.
2. Does that mean that the Lower Rock Creek Trail is closed due to fire damage?

Wow, really? I'm almost equally amazed that a pedal strike could ignite a wildfire as I am that their investigation tools/processes are accurate enough to deduce that that was the cause.

I have seen sparks fly from pedal strikes so it is no surprise a fire could start that way.

I've also heard of hot disc brake rotors igniting dry grass.

Was there much damage or a closure? I don't recall even hearing of this fire.

Not sure about the damage, but you can see plenty of fire retardant on the drive up the grade.

Quite often, when I tee off with my titanium soled driver, it makes sparks on the grains of sand on the teebox. I am not making this up. I suppose that's next.

There was a fire a couple of years ago blamed on a golfer striking a rock. While possible, my vote was for some fat dude dropping his cigar in the wrong spot.
